How much longer can it go on?

Not realizing it, my DS (10 weeks) was comfort sucking himself to sleep on me. While I've gotten better at recognizing his sleep signs, I didn't realize he was doing this until the past week or so. On the advice of the HV today I've tried to not let him do it tonight and get him into bed a lot earlier than "normal" (when he was comfort sucking himself on me). With the exception of two 10 minute sleeps, he's been almost non-stop crying/screaming for almost four hours. I have changed him, fed him (as it was around the time he would normally eat and was showing genuine hungry signs), rocked him and used all of the tips the HV gave me. He's been crying for so long/so hard at times that he's gotten himself so hot I've had to peel a layer off of him (his sleeping bag). How much longer can this go on? Any other tips?

Have decided, at least for now, to ignore the HV advice and continue giving DS comfort to go to sleep at night. He self-settles just fine other times. He's still too little and new to let be as unsettled as he was last night and I just can't do that to him (or to us -- it was heartbreaking!).

Good idea

let him feed/comfort as he needs to

lots of babies cluster feed in the evenings

my DD does this - and it is usual if tiring (for you)

she has settled down a little and is more content in the evening although she doesn't go down until 9/9.30 pm

It wasn't cluster feeding -- I've dealt with those loads of times. This was him sucking on me the way he would a dummy. Though in thinking about it, it was never for very long. He doesn't like dummies and won't suck on anything else.

He's had his jabs today and I've decided to do whatever to make him happy today.

DS settles between 9 & 11 most nights, though some nights it's midnight or later. Tiring for me. But I also remember his father is a nightowl and if left to his own devices will stay up until 2 a.m. or later without realizing the time.
