Advice on dropping night feed

My ds is a generally happy 9mo who is ff.
He is still waking up for a night feed and has never really slept for longer than his bed time of 7.30 till 5 ish at most. I really need to start getting a whole nights sleep especially as I'd like another one but can't imagine how I'd cope if ds still wasn't sleeping.
Anyhow we started cutting down how much he has in the middle of the night but now he just wakes up earlier! 6 am like clockwork! :-(
should I persevere? What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way?

My friend has a 5 month old and she was told that he should drop the night feed. He is also FF. Th eHealth Visitor told her to give him water or the dummy when he wakes up. The where doing it for two days and she said he was screaming but the persisted, now they've gone away for 3 weeks so will not know the result until they come back. Did you ask your HV?

My 12 week old still feeds at night but when I go to prepare the bottle I give her the dummy and sometimes she goes back to sleep so I think that might work for me, although she does wake up several times, and settles with the dummy. I'd love a whole night sleep but I suppose I can't complain!

Hv said to cry it out! I can't and won't do that so she was pretty useless!
We're cutting down the milk which is going ok and last night he didn't feed till 6!! He did wake up coz of teeth but didn't need milk. Hoping for more if the same!

Well done! I'd say don't dispair if tonight doesn't work, patience is the key, if he slept that long once is very likely that he will do it again )

he woke up at 3 and would t be settled. Gave in and did milk but even that didn't help. Eventuallyhe slept in our bed for a bit. I thought he had tummy ache at he time and his nappy in the morning was blue tinged fromhe pianting at nursery! Fingers crossed it wasn't a one off!
