COT BUMPERS- when are they safe to use?

does anyone know?

this is from the Babyworld site ' A cot bumper should be removed altogether once a baby is sitting, as it may be used as a lever to climb out.'
I never used them with ds as I really didn't see the point.

Never used them, they soon work out not to crash against the side of cot!

pretty useless, then. They can't be used with very little babies for fear of getting tangled or getting their heads trapped under them, then can't be used for sitting babies (so around 6m) for the reason stated by compo. What's the point of them at all?! Just another excuse for companies to milk new parents for more cash in trying to promote co-ordinating nurseries, IMHO.

oh? i was given some as a present- didnt use them when ds was little as thought he might suffocate and wondering what their purpose is and if it is worth using them- but that babyworld quote is interesting- thanks compo

the thing I couldn't understand was that once ds started rolling in his cot he hit his head on all sides of the cot - lol. So I didn't know where to put the cot bumper anyway!!!!

i never wanted one... but now am looking at them because DS keeps getting all tangled up in the bars... and is too young to figure out how to get himself out!

they are from mothercare- green and yellow i think- would have to go and look!

the rest of his room is the mothercare baby circus range...

They also keep the heat inside of the cot so the child can overheat.

NOT from 6 months? Oops, that's exactly when I started using one as DS is prone to wriggling around and jamming limbs between the bars.

I was told not before 6 months as there is a risk of baby overheating (much like a duvet I guess) if it came off,

Not after six months in case baby pulls up on it

ie then, I guess never!
