5 month settles @ 7pm but then wakes after an hour

Hello, i'm new to the site and have tried to find some threads regarding problem.
My son is 5 months and is following a routine. (breast fed & weaning)
However he usually settles at 7pm without a cry (as every other nap in the day) but then wakes and cries whether there is noise or quiet after an hour.
I have gone in immeaditely and soothed, or left him for 10 minutes then soothed (won't take a dummy) and have left to cry himself to sleep-took 30 mins.
Any suggestions to why and what to do?
Feeling awful.

hi, I remember this situation so well with DD1...she would settle at 7 ish and then at 8 would be awake crying. What I found helpful for us was to move her bedtime a little forward as I think she was getting a bit too tired by 7 pm and ensure that she was getting enough sleep during the day.

thank you i shall try that

I found that DD would do exactly this, and it was generally when she was too tired to feed properly at 7. Hence she'd wake up at 8 and feed better after a bit of sleep and then go longer (unfortunately still not sleeping through though).

Feeds well during day and last feed...oh pants! Woke up this morning at 4.30...fed...then slept for an hour and then another feed at 7!!!

You poor thing. I had exactly the same thing with my DD at probably a similar time and it really got me down. I found out she was having night terrors due to overtiredness (me trying to get her into a routine!) It really is SO hard to get the right sleep patterns - I'm convinced my DDs problem was due to sleep rather than food/hunger.

I've always been quite obsessed with my DDs sleep. She now sleeps pretty well day and night (apart from teething recently - 8.5months) and I think its just a case of going with your baby rather than trying to get them into a strict routine. I always find my DD sleeps better in the evening when she's not overtired and has a good afternoon nap.

Good luck!
