brrrr - DD's room is cold.

DD's room is getting pretty old at night - 16 degrees and 'in the blue' on her thermometer.

I am loathe to leave the heating on at night for many reasons.

She is in a vest, sleepsuit, and sleeping bag and last night I put 2 cellular blankets over her. She slept fine (for once!) but wasn't particularly warm this morning - face and hands cold, body reasonable - not cold but not warm IYKWIM.

I am a bit paranoid about overheating but what are the risks of being too cold?

She is 7 months.

One of our bedrooms is cold too, I used to put a fleece blanket under DD which seemed to make a big difference to how warm she stayed.

I don't think there are risks as such about being a bit cold other than being uncomfortable and waking up.

16 degrees isnt too bad especially as the recommended range of temperatures for babies to sleep in is 16-20 degrees. Our bedrooms have recently been getting down to 13/14 degrees and we have all slept fine as we are cosy under our covers. If your lo gets cold I am sure she would wake up and let you know about it!!

16 is fine. Just add an extra blanket if necessary or a warmer type of sleepsuit. My DDs room often goes down to 13 or 14 - which feels v cold, but they have always slept well (they both slept much better when it's cold with extra blankets than in the summer when too hot). Now 2 and 4 they are fine as have duvet and thick pjs, but I do think when they were in sleeping bags if the temp was 16 or less I needed extra covers.

My DS's room is the same. It's on the outside of the house and our windows are all single glazed only and a bit draughty. His was showing blue for a few mornings which worried me, and also he started waking at around 4am, which made me wonder if it was through being cold. We need to get the windows sorted out but in the meantime have bought a small oil-filled radiator with a timer and have set this to come on in DS's room between 2am and 4am. This seems to keep it warm enough till the morning. He sleeps in vest, PJs and sleeping bag but I was still not happy when the thermometer showed blue (it was 11 one morning although 14/15 seemed more usual). He is sleeping longer again now too.

I'm also planning as a short-term fix to get some stuff from B&Q to insulate the window and stop some of the heat escaping (foam strip things). Is much heat escaping from your DD's room this way, do you think?

Gosh - 11 - that is cold!

Our house is a new build so plenty of insulation - I think it's just that it was a cold night plus we'd been out most of the day so the heating hadn't been on at all.

I will keep on with the extra blankets & keep a check on it.

If you don't want to leave the heating on, what about just heating her room? My 7mo twins have an oil filled radiator in their room. I put it on when I go to bed and I have the thermostat set so it just keeps the room at 20 degrees (they only have a long sleeved body suit under grobag as they hate being dressed in more layers) and then I turn it off in the morning when the heating comes one.
