Oh good god, now he will only sleep for 30mins at a time! I'm going mad

My 12week ds had got better at sleeping- he went from 10/11 until 3am. Then would wake hourly from then.

Now he will only sleep for 30-45mins at a time day and night. I barely have enough time to settle him go to toilet and into bed. 20mins later he is awake and crying.

3 days now, I don't think I've ever felt so awful. Last night by 4am I just sat and cried with him as I was so tired.

he won't sleep in car (he just screams which makes long journeys impossible) will only do 30mins in pram despite me walking for 2 hours the other day.

I thought it might be a growth spurt, but if anything he is eating less.
I am losing the will to live.

Is he really crying or just grumbling?

When DD is like this (awake and grumbling every hour) I find it helps to grit my teeth and just hold or rock her for a couple of hours during the night so she gets used to sleeping through a couple of sleep cycles. This usually makes her a bit better. Then I'll lie down for a sleep with her during the day so we both catch up a bit.

If he's really crying then it's probably teeth

bigchris · 28/11/2009 11:29

what about co-sleeping just to get you through?

Picante · 28/11/2009 11:31

It's a sleep cycle thing. Does he sleep on his back? Try him on his front.

jennifersofia · 28/11/2009 11:31

I know it is contentious, but Gina Ford's Contented Little Baby book really helped us in regards to regulating sleep, and getting into a sleep routine.

roslily · 28/11/2009 11:32

Tried co-sleeping, he still cries. My ds never grumbles only cries, moving to screaming.

Last night I tried shush pat and rocking him through initial stages, but nope, wide awake.

Gonna try calpol tonight. Could be teeth, he is constantly gnawing on his hand.

Also, could he be cold? Can you try him with an extra layer or blanket?
But if he's still crying when co sleeping I guess he must be hungry or in pain?

mrsjuan · 28/11/2009 11:35

btw - trinity I am picturing you as a cave woman with a club -

TrinityRhino · 28/11/2009 12:10

roffle

I did mean hugs

Montifer · 28/11/2009 12:25

Sorry it's R+J, but could this be worth a try?

I certainly would have given it a go when DS was little and screamy if I'd known about it then.

Good luck

could he be feeling poorly ? There's so many nasty bugs around at the mo... particularly if he's eating less...
