Moving from Crib to Cot / Rolling Over HELP!!

Hi all,

My baby will be 6 months old in a weeks time and I have just moved him into a cot-bed in his own room, primarily because he is running out of room in his wicker crib that's in our room

He has slept well in the crib pretty much since birth and I put him in there awake at night and for naps and he generally drops off without much trouble.

I'm feeling a bit sad about moving him and him being all alone in his cot (I guess this is normal?) but my main worry is that he flips over onto his tummy to sleep in the cot. I'm guessing he didn't do this in the crib as there wasn't actually room. I go in there and flip him back onto his back but every time I go in and check he's back on his tummy again :S

He can roll over both ways with no trouble and has always had good head control, strong neck etc. and can almost get up onto all fours now. He sleeps in a sleeping bag, no blankets with just a little comfort blanky thing. Am I worrying for nothing? It's keeping me awake at night!! Is there something I can buy that will keep him on his back? All the sleep positioners I have found are for under 6 months.

Also, just some general advice on changing his place of sleep. Night times are going pretty OK, he has a bit of a whinge, but he does drop off eventually but day naps are a different story and it's starting to get to the point that by the time I manage to settle him, it's almost time for his next feed so he's not napping well at all. If he's in his crib, buggy, carseat or on my bed or sofa - its not an issue. He just doesn't seem to want to sleep in the cot for some reason! Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Re the flipping over onto his front - once a baby can do this, there's no point trying to flip them back. Doesn't sound like you've any cause for concern, and he may even sleep better now he can choose his own position.

Re the cot - persevere... He'll get the hang of it soon enough. Maybe make sure that everything in there smells right for him - put the sheet from the crib tightly over the head end of the cot? So he's still got plenty of the cues he's used to. Good luck
