Nrly 3 yr old, coming into our bed

Can anyone give advice on how to deal with this. Our nearly 3 yo is coming into our bed most nights, kicking us awake, and sleeping badly herself. (This is partly because for a year we were living abroad and all slept in one room - set all sorts of bad habits.) We've now been back about 3 months, and have been trying to get things back to normal - ie both children asleep in their own room. But every night dd get up and crawls in with us. We take her back... sometimes once a night, but last night it must have been about 5 times, and we still found her in between us at about 5am. She's getting cleverer and has learnt to creep in quietly. But we don't want her there - as none of us sleep well when she is there.
help = anyone managed to solve this???

bump - watching with interest.
Am exhausted from my nearly three year old still doing this.
I don't have the energy to be up all night with him making him stay in his own bed & I"m hoping he will just grow out of it.

bump
Me too.
I don't really mind too much but he is a wriggler who takes up all the bed.

Oh God, we have this with our nearly 4 year old! She'll go for weeks without doing it and then just pitches up for a few nights. Our 9 year old was the same. In the end we just them stay there and one of us goes to their bed. May not be the 'right' thing to do but it will end eventually1 As soon as ds hit 5 he was fine.

So so pleased its not just me who has this problem still!

Put her back, keep putting her back. No talking, attention etc. Prepare yourself for a few terrible nights and don't give in.

What coolma said - decamp to your DC's bed. It's a phase and won't last and the most important thing is for you all to get as good a night's sleep as possible. Don't worry about etiquette!

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 19/11/2009 19:56

i thought of that but worry that the toddler bed isnt long enough or collapse then were truly fooked!

Bonsoir · 19/11/2009 19:57

Always buy DCs full size beds

Just to let you know you are not alone. I thought we had a brilliant little sleeper with ds, he slept through since a year old and would never get out of his bed, even in the morning lol! Recently at 3 yrs he has started coming into our bed, this has been going on every night for about a month now, he hasn't been well so i think that's what started it. I've tried taking him back but he kicks up such a fuss that i either end up doing it loads of times and then ending up sleeping with him on his cot bed! We can't have him crying as he will wake dd up who is still in a cot in our room. Dp has started sleeping in the spare room as it's the only way we can all get some sleep. I often wake up and ds is beside me. It's not brilliant but I haven't got the energy to be up all night, we are just hoping he grows out of it.
