6 month old turning round in cot and getting stuck - any advice?

My nearly 6 month old has started turning round ninety degrees in his cot and then banging his head every time he kicks. This is resulting in a very angry baby waking up hourly! Anyone had this problem and found a good solution? We thought about somehow securing a pillow down each side but I'm worried he'll smother himself.

Is he in a sleeping bag? I often find using a sleeping bag makes the rotating thing more difficult for my 7 month old as she has been known to do the same thing!

Unfortunately yes - he has an uncanny knack of swinging both legs up and round!

I think this is another one of those phase things... it doesn't last long, but my antenatal class reported the same thing, all at the same age, and 2-3 weeks later they all stopped doing.

What I did (much to my Mother's disgust) was buy the next size grobag (6-18 months) and tuck the bottom of it under the bottom of the mattress, wedged in with a rolled up towel (secured together with safety pin so it can't come unravelled and be a smother risk)

we had the same prob with ds2 he would end up lying across the cot and would manage to wedge his leg through the cot bars and then wake up screaming cos it would be stuck fast (he had very chunky legs bless him)

We ended up buying two cot bumpers and putting one down either side of the cot and he's not done it since

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to give the bumpers a go tonight. EE - I love your method though and kind of want to give it a try just because I think it's so inspired!
