Sleepytot comforter - any experience of them?

Hi all,
I have been having issues with my DD waking in night wanting the dummy back a few times a night. Before I try and deal with weaning her off it, was wondering if anyone had tried the sleepytot and whether it made any difference at all? My DD is 5 months btw and goes to sleep like a dream until 1am ish. It's just after this that she wakes every 2 hours wanting the dummy back and I am so tired! She's not hungry as will go straight back to sleep with her dummy in
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

It looks lovely, but I can't see how it would keep a dummy in your baby's mouth. We had the same problem with our DS and had to get up several times during the night to pop his dummy back in. For the first few months he liked to be swaddled at night (luckily he was a winter baby so wasn't too hot). When I wrapped him in a blanket I tucked the dummy in too, wedging it in his mouth. Since he slept on his side, this seemed to work quite well until he was able to find his dummies himself. When he was a bit older, I made sure he had lots in his cot so there was always one within reach. I did notice in hospital (bearing in mind this was 28 years ago!) the nurses taped dummies into the babies' mouths so they wouldn't fall out - not recommended!

Oh I am a BIG fan of the Sleepytot Comforter. It doesn't keep the dummy in but that's what is great about it. It just makes it easy for your LO to find. My DS cuddles the Sleepytot and sucks the dummy and then it falls out once he's asleep. When he needs it again, he just cuddles up to it and finds the dummy. We never had to get up for the dummy again after getting one of these.

Agree with Milsy - the sleepytot is brilliant. We havent had to put the dummy in once since we got it. Our dd is 1 now, but if used when younger, it is still easier to find as the dummy falls out right by their mouth iykwim. Get one!

Agree this is a great idea and I have used it for DS now 1 since about 7 months. As others have said it doesn't keep dummy in but DS can find it very easily.
Only drawback for us it that DS likes to rub his teddy on his head and face (...bit weird I know!!) while going to sleep and unless you've got the velcro tightly closed it it could scratch LO's faces. Discovered him one morning with scratches ALL over his face, looked like he done 10 rounds with a cat!!
Although that might just be DS!!!

i bought one of these last week but as soon as ds moves the teddy to try and look at it, it pulls the dummy out, he just hasnt figured it out, it could do with longer arms and legs, ive left it in his cot with a dummy attached but he just isnt into it, maybe i should of got one earlier, ds is 9 months.

Yes love it. Isn't a miracle cure but definately helps. DS2 loves to snuggle the bunny so now loves dummy and bunny equally and doesn't seem bothered at all if the dummy falls out. Sleep has definately improved since we got it at 5 months. Think 5 months is perfect as starting to get aware enough to form an attachment but sleep patterns aren't too established.

I don't know if he's finding the sleepytot by himself. Often when we go in the bunny is at the opposite end of the bed but he doesn't generally wake til 5-5.30 ish (and then goes back to sleep) so maybe he does find bunny.

Equally good is there is no more hunting for dummy's in the middle of the night as its right there is the cot. Spent 2 years retrieving dummys for DS1.

I gave my DS a dummy bunny at about 6 months, prior to this I don`t really think they understand what to do with them. Brilliant, took her a few weeks to get used to it but now the bunny goes everywhere with her and she loves it!at night when she wakes she just finds the dummy and puts herself back off to sleep again. Best £12 I have ever spent!

Does anyone know from what age it is safe to use the sleepytot comforter loose in the cot (I.e. not attached to the bars of the cot?)

Sioda · 21/11/2012 21:36

From about 6 months. Same as for any small lovey. 5 months is probably fine though for a healthy baby who can move it around for themselves at that stage.

Thanks sioda
