So about 3-4 months ago, 14 m/o started grouching so much for morning nap that I would let him sleep in buggy as didn't wanna spend 45 mins getting him to sleep and then he would only sleep for 30 mins(!)

So starting rocking him to sleep in the buggy (it's got quite a good lie-flat function).

Now I just put him in the buggy and leave the room once I see his tiredness "cues" and that's that.
Off he goes

But for his PM nap and at bedtime it is SUCH a struggle to put him to bed. He stands up, runs about the cot. it usually takes about an hour to get him to go down if not longer.

Any advice MNers?

DO you think the mattress might be uncomfortable? Does he have a night light? What time are you putting him to bed at night, and what time is his PM sleep?

Have you thought about cutting out PM sleep, maybe he is not tired enough for it now?

Sorry that came across really abrupt. What I meant was that if he is having two sleeps in the day, maybe he is running around because he is not tired. Maybe try moving his morning sleep a little later and only having one sleep during the day? Also how long are his naps during the day. With my DD I dont let her sleep past 3pm, and she only has a hour in the day.

Hi there
Not abrupt at all -thanks for replying...
Don't think cot mattress is uncomfy
He has a nightlight but not v bright
Usually eats between 5 and 6 bath
between 6 and 7
If it's earlyish and he doesn't seem tired we watch In hte night garden but only ever at bedtime
Stories
Milk
7.30 latest Bed

he does SEEM tired both at naptime and bedtime (have tried dropping a sleep and it's still a battle)

We had a night light, but it seems to keep DD awake for longer, now we don't use it, she drops off quicker.
We tried combining the two naptimes together in the middle of the day, so she had a 2 hour sleep after lunch, or sometimes before (and lunch after) then she would get throught the afternoon and be tired for bed. It took her a few days to get used to and she was still tired at her morning nap time, but then she fell right into the routine and it worked, now we have cut down her daytime nap to 1 hour, as she wasn't getting tired at bedtime.

I think also that you kind of have to look at your own sleep paterns, as DP can have less sleep than me and feel fine, but I need more sleep. Children are much the same, some need more sleep than others. As long as he is not going to bed too late, then I woulsnt worry if hes not dropping of straight away.

Sorry, kif some of this doesnt make sense, I have a wriggly DD climbing over me....think its time to go and play with her

well my ds is 12 months old and for the last 7 months has been falling asleep in buggy every night - have finally got him to start going to sleep in the cot but only at night time - no chance during the day. I know this doesn't offer any solutions for you but I hope it's some comfort that you're doing alot better than I am!
