10 week old noisy/unsettled sleep at night

My lovely 10 week old DS is doing pretty well. He feeds every 3 hours in the day and has about 3 naps. We've started a little bedtime routine (feed, bath, story, swaddle etc) and he sleeps from about 8pm in the lounge in his moses basket. He sleeps really really well at this point until about 11pm when he feeds again and then we take him upstairs and put his basket next to our bed.

However after this it's a bit hit and miss on the sleep front. He feeds again about 3.30/4am and then is up at 7am (which I know is great for this age). But his 2nd and 3rd stretches of sleep at night can be quite unsettled. He makes lots of noise and writhes around a lot, sometimes getting his arms out of his (tight!) swaddle because he's moved around so much. He seems to be asleep while he's doing this (well, his eyes remain closed and he doesn't cry!). Have checked and he doesn't seem to be hungry/wet/hot/cold while he's doing this - although I guess it could be wind??

We tried the grobag the other night in case the swaddle was annoying him, but he just kept hitting himself in the face which made it worse!

Would be grateful for your advice. Should I just try to ignore the noise and assume he is asleep unless he cries? Or is there some other way we can help him to sleep in a more settled fashion? Or are we stressing and we should just go with it for now? Thanks...

Some babies (as some adults) are just noisy sleepers. My DD was a wriggler too.
Just go with it.

My little one made all sorts of funny noises in his sleep - from squeaks and burps to growling and wailing!

If he is asleep, and there is no reason to think anything is wrong (eg temperature, nappy all OK) then I think you will have to get used to it!

My DS2 is 6 months now and shares with his brother - we miss all the little noises....

Our DD is a very noisy sleeper and I would wake at every squeak, snort and grunt (sorry, make her sound like a piglet). She would also get out of her swaddle and bang her hands off the crib bars and wake herself up.

We put her in her own room at 10 weeks and we have all slept much better since. I know this is against the FSID guidance but I couldn't go on with the severe sleep deprivation. We follow all the other guidance about temperature, blankets, sleep on the back etc. etc.

thanks so much for your replies. reassuring to know DS isn't the only noisy one! had a quick look at your replies before we went to bed last night and took your advice about going with it, so didn't check every time he was making noise - and we all got a much better night's sleep as a result so thanks a million!
