Sudden waking periods

DH & I co-sleep with toddler DD and baby DS.

Baby DS at 9 months old has suddenly started to have weird sudden waking periods in the middle of the night. This has gone on for several nights in a row.

He will sit up and cry and/or crawl around. He won't open his eyes or respond to his name and seems slightly upset not not very distressed.

I am finding it very difficult to deal with as he usually just snuggles up to me and nurses on and off and we are use to a peaceful night.

Eventually after a long while, I manage to get him latched on and he'll go quiet and back to sleep properly.

I am worried as I am on a couple of strong painkillers at the moment (that are breastfeeding friendly) but I am wondering if they might be giving him these unsettled nights ?

I doubt it's the painkillers. all my kids have had these patches of waking. My 10 month old had a recent patch of being wide awake at about 3 am . I was not very receptive at that time in the morning.

In a few days time you'll probably find he makes a developmental leap and you'll think 'that's what was going on'. Or he's coming down with something. Either way, it probably won't last. This is just based on my own experience, though.

I do know what you mean about finding it difficult to deal with. When you've been used to quiet nights the frequent waking can really hit hard. Do you have any way you can get a nap during the day? It might help you get through it until he settles down again.

It's much more likely developmental; is he looking like he's going to pull up to stand or start walking?

Thanks Ladies

He is already cruising around and pushes things around the room whilst walking (like a cardboard box OR a small wooden chair) !!!
