Going from gro-bag to duvet when DD changes sleeping position all the time

DD has had grobags from when she was a couple of weeks old as she hated being tucked in. She's now 17mths and won't be too long before she'll be too big for grobags.

DD (like the rest of us) does move around alot in her sleep but frequently ends up with her head at the bottom of the bed. I'm getting worried about her doing this when she moves to having a duvet and whether this could be a problem.

Has anyone been through this? Was it a problem? How did you deal with it?

Am in the same boat as you - Ds 22mo and still in Grobags as he is SO active in his sleep! When he goes for his daytime nap we just give him a blanket but he chucks it out the cot in an 'Eugh, what is that?' kind of manner. So no advice I'm afraid, but will watch thread in anticipation

I bought a cot duvet for my DD at about the same age - and was concerned for the same reasons, but she did get used to it eventually. I tuck it under the mattress along one side and the bottom and leave the other side free. Most nights (even now) I have to put her back under the duvet, pull her up the bed or turn her around, but if she is restless I just let her get on with it. If its cold, I make sure I dress her warmly. She's a hot little thing when she's asleep anyway.

The pillow however, took much longer for her to get used to....she is now used to it and sleeps on it - she's 23 months btw

I needed to do this before moving her into a bed, so I had one less thing to worry about IYKWIM

Ds has just moved out of his sleeping bag and into a big boy duvet and I dreaded the repeated tucking in, but it hasn't happened.

We have a cot bed and bought a normal single duvet and use it sideways, giving a big tuck-in. He loves it and snuggles in well. A single duvet has the advantage of being ewasier to cover - single duvet covers cast nothing compared to over-priced rip off cot duvet covers.

DS was in grobags until he was 3 (you can get very big ones). I suppose the grobag became to him what dummies are for other children.

I just kept him in the grobag for as long as he was comfortable with it. Easier to remove during the summer when they may be asking to get rid of it.

You can get Gro-bags in size 18 months-3 years...I think that's right, definitely 18 months+
I've just got one for DS as he's a wriggly sleeper too and has always used one (except for naps, when he has a firmly tucked in blanket but he doesn't move around much during nap time)
I suppose he'll have to get used to a duvet at some point but I'm putting it off for now!

I have two very wriggly children (and one who lies completely still )
the wrigglers have a fantastic learning curve - wriggle and fidget, duvet on floor, get cold, wake up and put it back on ... repeat as necessary til they figure out that they need to keep hold of their duvet!
We tuck their duvets under the end of the bed so that it can only fall halfway off - dd is in a cotbed sized bed with single bedding on so it takes longer to for her to wriggle out of it

Had my dd in grobags until about 3 and a half, 3 yo ds still in them. Think you can get them even bigger than 36 months? Re duvets, get Duvet grippers which hold it in place, a sort of piece of elastic that grips either side and goes under bed. Also found getting a small pillow and telling my very wriggly dd to keep her head on it worked. She only fell out of bed once, and sleeps very straight now!

nickytwotimes · 13/05/2009 19:09

Oh yes, I should have added that ds is nearly 3 and has just outgrown his 18-36 mth sleeping bag.

TK Maxx sell them for about 10 - 12 quid. Rather a lot cheaper than Grobag branded ones.

That's great thanks everyone - I was struggling to find bigger gro-bags that didn't cost a fortune. As DD is in a cotbed will try the single duvet option and see what happens...

My 4 year old nephew loves his grobag....

SparkyToo · 25/05/2009 17:50

Our eldest is very wriggly. We too tuck the duvet into the end of the mattress and he justs gets on with it. Often have to rearrange him as we go to bed and he still falls out of bed on occasion - but Hey, ho, not a disaster or anything.
