14 month old can fall asleep on his own - just not in his cot...

We are really struggling with DS as he can fall asleep on the couch, on our knees, in the car, on our bed, in his buggy but just goes ape if we try to put him in his cot before he is completely sound asleep. He has just started climbing out of the cot as well, so if he wakes during the night, he is just getting straight up and trying to climb out. By the time you hear him stirring to getting into his room (right next door to ours) he is at the end of the cot, standing up climbing the bars.... In his grobag!!!

Anyway, I guess I am just looking for advice as he had started to sleep through the night but now he is more mobile, he has been up between 3 and 7 times a night but still gets up at 5:30-6am.

I would suggest doing the same as my sister in law. Get him a bed child proof the room and put a child gate on the door so he can't get out the room if he gets up. Otherwise he's going to hurt himself. May be he'll be better in a bed? Having nightmares with my 13th month too as he is being difficult at going to bed too even tho v tired. (screaming ab dabs and puking!). And waking at 5am or 5:30 Today 4:18am then will not go back to sleep. Hoping its just a phase.(v willful one) Hope someone can let us know!

First of all look on the bright side. So many parents moan about their dcs only being able to sleep in their cot - you are lucky! Second - don't move him until he is sound asleep! Third - as a co-sleeper for many years - I would say for your own sanity just have him in your bed while this phase lasts!

Probably not much help as usual....

Thanks for replying so quickly. Since I said he falls asleep anywhere, he has refused point blank to nap this morning! Now he will prob fall asleep before lunch n mess up the whole day! Argh!

He is getting i teeth and molars just now so not sure how much that is effecting things...

Time to get rid of the cot. Put the mattress on the floor before your child gets seriously injured.
