Edgarcat, try feeling your baby's tummy, while it is asleepunder the covers. It's a good indicator of if the temp is too high.

We just wrap ds2 in a fleecy sheet and put over one layer of blanket - i feel a move from moses basket to cot is imminent as he is so long but worry about settling him in.

How many blankets? One grobag is the answer!

Seriously, they're fab! We've used them ever since moving ds into big cot (from about 7 weeks). We had bought a whole load of blankets which have hardly been used - what a waste of money - but the grobags are worth it, ds would never stay under his bedding otherwise. I can't even get him under normal bedding in the first place - he just kicks and wriggles so much. First time he slept through was the second night he was in a grobag, but maybe it was just coincidence.

one sheet and 2 cotton baby blankets if your house is around 18 degrees.
Dd's bedroom used to go to 14/13 during a cold night and was about 19 when she went down so i'd use 2 blankets when she went down, and fold one in half (3 layers in total) when I went to bed on a cold night.
hth.

I have a sleeping bag which my ds is way too big for and it has only been used once, so I am happy to pass it on to anyone else who can use it. I'll be happy to pop it in the post - it is a light blue jojomamanbebe one. I am not looking for any money for it that is why I am not putting it on the noticeboard.

Hughsie · 25/04/2003 14:19

I'm quite interested in the sleeping bag if noone else is sis. My ds2 will be going in a cot soon and I was wondering how to keep him walrm as am concerned that that will affect the amount of sleep I get from him

Edgarcat - if you are interested - go for it as I highjacked your thread!

I'm also a huge fan of the grobag. My ds2 has been in one since he went into a cot at 6 weeks. He is still in one at almost 2 years old (It's the second size one now - i think 18-36months)
Apart from a hiccup when he was ill he has always slept right through and I don't worry about him losing covers and being cold in the night.
I also think the grobag people are excellant - I ordered his latest bag online a couple of days before Xmas, not expecting to receive it for weeks, and it turned up the following day - on xmas eve. Now that's service !!

Hughsie, if you send me an e-mail with details of where to send it to, I will send it to you.

BTW, you can send me an e-mail by asking mumsnet to forward it to me.

Wow that's brilliant do you think he was too warm before then? I had a better night last night too - hope they keep up the good work - have you tried the cot yet?

Meanmum · 26/04/2003 22:34

I've put my ds into his grobag again tonight but he's just woken up because he is too hot. I got the winter one and I have the heating on at the moment (just turned it off). Do you think I need the lighter one?

FYI - tonight is the first night he's managed to sleep in his grobag without vomiting on it so he hasn't had a successful run with it to date.

gingernut · 26/04/2003 22:45

We've been using the 1 tog weight recently (winter ones are 2-2.5 tog). Is it actually a grobag or another brand? We have grobags and use the thermometers that come with them to decide how to dress ds. If you don't have a thinner grobag and he's still too hot then you can take some clothes off instead. But I'd recommend you get a thinner sleeping bag for the summer. Grobag do 3 different weights: 0.5 tog high summer ones (which are great and fit from 6 months to 3 years) as well as the 1 tog and 2.5 tog ones.

Meanmum · 26/04/2003 22:46

It is a grobag as opposed to a different brand and I think I'll take your advice about getting a lighter one.

Meanmum · 26/04/2003 22:47

Do you turn your heating off during the night. We don't have it on so would the medium weight grobag be enough in this weather all through the night?

emwi · 05/05/2003 09:19

I use a lightweight sleeping bag and blankets. the sleeping bag stops dd kicking the blankets off and I can vary the number of blankets she has.
