My 1 year old now sleeps all night long till 5.30am , BUT I wake up at about 3 and can't go back to sleep at all. I have semidozes, but my mind just churns over everything and I do relaxing exercises etc. What can I do ?

How long has it been going on? I remember having the same after finally getting my ds to sleep through. I just read a book until I felt tired again, also went to bed a bit later if I wasn't doing anything important the next day. I think your bodyclock gets used to waking up at silly times. Mine gradually improved after a month or so.

mmm are you okay otherwise? No symptoms of depression or anything?
Sleep disturbances are a classic symptom but presumeably you would notice other things too.

Hi mmmm, poor you. It's so frustrating when your baby is sleeping through but you can't. I had a big problem with this last year. Here are some tips I picked up, but it took a long time. Firstly don't WANT sleep. It knows, and scarpers! If you think about it, in a stressful way, during the day - stop. Think about waves on a beach. Your subconcious is very vulnerable to having stress messages reinforced by your concious mind. A bath 1 1/2 to 2 hours before bed with dead sea salts (superdrug, boots about 3 quid) is supposed to promote deep sleep. Also can you completely tune out and wear ear plugs, let your partner be on duty for the baby. It's another good message to send your subconscious that you are not available for being awake. You have my sympathy. I firmly believe that not dwelling on it is key. Best of luck. it WILL get better.

mmm why don't you try lavender oil on your pillows (just a couple of drops )and have a cup of camomile tea before you go to bed.

I can't be of much help but I want to sympathise with you mmm. I also wake up in the early hours and can't get back to sleep but I can't understand why because I don't even start worrying and thinking about things until I've been awake for 3 hours and having nothing else to do but dwell on things. I do agree you should try chamomile and lavender though.

I always picture myself on a beautiful white beach with palm trees at one end and a gorgeous clear blue ocean. The beach is all mine and I am walking along it enjoying the sunshine etc. I don't get very far as I'm always asleep before I reach the palm trees.

Have you got anywhere that you dream to be.

I haven't been sleeping well during this pregnancy and have found the best thing is to have a bath before going to bed and lie there running through the day and sort of putting it to bed. I then have a Horlicks, no idea whether it works but I've become quite addicted !!

Thanks for all the tips . I think part of it is my weak bladder telling me it's time for a pee and then when I've staggered back to bed my mind is on red alert. Nice to imagine all of you other sleepless mums tossing around .Poor you too. I even tell myself "sssh" and rock myself like a baby ! Oh well , I'll try the visualisation tonight with the horlicks, chamomile tea and the lavender essential oils . ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz
