phasing out daytime naps

DS is only 19mo and todau went with no nap. I just could not get him off to sleep after lunch, so he lay and watched thomas for a couple of hours.

His night bed time has been getting later and later and now takes well over an hour to get to sleep (except tonight it took 10 mins). bed time is straight after 7pm bath.

if he does have a daytime nap he easily does 2 hours except on a very bad teething day.

I just thought he was a bit young to give up daytime naps but would really like him to be asleep by 7:30-8pm at night.

any thoughts please.

DS is 22mths and has recently really started playing up at bedtime (7pm), taking an hour or so, and him and me getting into a right state !!
2 days in a row, due to us being busy, in and out the car or pushchair, he only had a 30 min nap and both bedtimes went off without a fuss and sleeping through til 6.30 - 7 am.
Now, unless he is really tired or ill, he only has 30 mins to an hour after lunch or some time out in Thomas or igglepiggle land !!

We dropped DD's nap early (around 2) due to the reasons you give.

If she had a nap, she wouldn't go to sleep before 9 or even 10pm sometimes.

If she didn't have a nap, she'd be asleep at 7pm.

Like I said she was probably 2 years old by the time the nap was fully gone. Although, I remember an in-betweeny stage where sometimes she was tired and did need a nap occasionally.

he slept quite well last night. a couple of fidgets and a quick suck of the bottle and he was off again. usual sqirm at 5am but bottle and sush pat and he was off until 6:30. I think we will be having shorter daytime naps and possibly no naps some days.

I will miss my opportunity to catch up on sleep when we have a bad night although I suspect DS will want a nap on those days.
