And it can only get worse the earlier it gets lighter! This morning after a dreadful night with ds2 (another thread!) he came bounding in our bedroom jumping on our bed at 6am with wake up mummydaddy its getting up time because the suns shining I've looked out the window!"

And yes he does say mummydaddy as if its one word! We are one you know!

Hah we have one like this. A black-out blind is a wonderful thing though!

Meglet · 10/04/2009 20:17

We have black out blinds, black out curtains and sometimes I have even been know to tape the sides of them down a bit to stop any light getting through. Total sensory deprivation, works a treat . But it does keep them quiet until 7:30, sometimes later. I get my tea and toast in peace that way.

Will definately try a blackout blind although doesn't stop him from getting up and looking out of the window ofcourse. Last year I didn't have this problem but he was still in a cot then!

Ah, yes, it did just occur to me that my 2 (2.5yods and 7mo5dd) are still in cots. I'm not looking forward to moving ds to a big bed in a few weeks.

fridayschild · 10/04/2009 20:27

I agree about keeping it as dark as you can.

We tried a clock, because 6.30 is morning in our house (DSs always been early risers). They kept coming in to show us how long it was until both hands pointed down, lol.

Lots of fresh air and exercise (for the children!) is also helpful, IME.

DS1 was so attached to his cotbed that I waited til he literally asked us to make it into a bed when he was nearly 3! THen it was a very exciting thing for him before when we'd talked about it his little face would drop and would say no want cot It did have its advantages though!

6am is ok. I used to long for my kids to stay in bed till 6am. 5.30 was the norm and I just had a psychologically barrier to any time before 6, even if it was 5.55.

but yes, keep it dark dark daRK

noavailablename · 11/04/2009 10:27

5.30 was normal getting up time for mine until they were 3 or 4 IIRC.

motherofmany · 11/04/2009 11:23

back to bed till whatever time you choose. try "in summer its light when you go to bed and when you get up but in this family we don't get out of bed till...." and stick to it every morning. in our house not having tv in the morning works a treat with a reminder the night before....all said though morning is morning and summer time is traditionally the time of year to be up with the larks
