6 month old rolling over in cot and screaming as unable to roll back - any ideas?

My 6 month old baby son has just learnt to roll over from his back to his front and now he does it whenever I put him on his back - even when he's in the cot with a sleeping bag on! The problem is he can't roll back so 5 minutes after putting him down for a nap there is frantic screaming and I have to go and roll him back over again! In desperation we've put him back in the Moses Basket, which he can just about squeeze into, but this is obviously a very short term solution. Has anyone got any better ideas? He normally sleeps in a cotbed.

I have just come through this stage with dd! And remember it well from when ds was like it too.

Luckily after a week or so dd could roll back and now sleeps on her side but before that I just used to stay with her til she went to sleep and roll her back if she went onto her tummy as she hated it too.

All I can suggest is plenty of rolling practise when it isn't nap time and hope he works it out quickly.

It won't go on for long I promise!

Pollywolly - hadn't thought of staying with him til he fell asleep! The only potential problem is that I might distract him from sleeping but I might try hiding out of sight!

Starlight - hello! What's the name of the things you can buy? Wouldn't towels get unrolled? DH was wondering about pillows each side but is there a suffocation risk?

Yes we have started weaning. We started and 5 1/2 months as he had got to the point where he was taking 6 boobs at some feeds!!! It's not been quite as easy as with DD - he took a while to get the hang of it and if the food isn't cold or if he's tired or he doesn't like the food he just cries throughout the feed, though he is getting better now. He only likes sweet veg and fruit so far so we'll have to educate his planet!

I'm missing Mumsnet - this is the first time I've logged on for many months. I'm finding it really hard work with 2 so close in age - they are lovely but DD (2 now) is very demanding and so active even nursery comment on it! She goes 3 half days a week, which saves my sanity! The main problem is that DS is waking every night at about 5am and I usually have to feed him back to sleep (although DH managed to settle him without this morning). By the time I've done that and then got back to sleep myself, DD wakes up, so I'm permanently knackered. DH works shifts so sometimes I do get to have a nap if he's off work but otherwise I'm like a zombie all day and DD takes a lot of energy! So Mumsnet has slipped - when I do get my time off in the evenings I just want to slump in front of the TV! But I often wonder about you lot. How are you (and everyone else) getting on?

You can get little cylindrical cushions that are connected by a piece of cloth. You lie them on that with the pillows tucked under their armpits. It helps to keep them on their back.
