Breathing monitors

Does anyone have any experience of breathing monitors? I really want to get one but have visions of panicky false alarms etc so I'm looking for recommendations.

We have an Angelcare one and have never had any problems with false alarms. It really gives me peace of mind and stops you having to creep in to check on them every half an hour!

I didn't like the sound activated receiver though as it would often come on, but because of the slight delay you wouldn't know what sound caused the receiver to activate. This is nothing to do with the breathing monitor though and there are various models available.

I use a Nanny Sense one, never had any false alarms, but it does go off when I forget to turn it off when I take her out of the cot. I looked at the website Ana Wiz, and spoke to them on the phone and found them really good talking me through the pros and cons of pads vs the ones that clip on nappies

I second the Angelcare. It takes a while to remember to turn it off when you get baby out of the cot but it will soon remind you! I would never sleep otherwise... DS is 13.5 months old and I should turn the damn thing off but actually he sleeps in a room 2 flights of stairs down from our bedroom so I guess it will be on for a while longer...

Swear by mine. I still have em under my kids cots/beds (even thought they're probably too old) without the alarms switched on, and when I half wake in the night, I open one eye, see them both flashing, smile and go back to sleep. Still turn the alarms on in the night if either are ill - just cos I'm a worrier. Not had many false alarms. We had an Angel Care and then the Tommee Tippee pad one. Both great. They work better on a slatted base if you get a piece of hardboard cut to size (I think that's a recommendation in the instructions for one of them).

Lobsters, I posted on your recent alarm thread. So glad you like your alarm. I loved the sound of your clip on one - I'd never heard of that type. Hope all is okay with LO now.

I have an angelcare too and as soon as he went in his own bed (still in our room) I slept 100 times better than when he was in his moses basket next to us where I used to have to touch him all night to check he was still breathing! I agree about forgetting to turn it off when you get them out of bed, DP STILL forgets and the alarm sounds as soon as he gets back into bed and I have to get up and turn it off!

We used this one as DS2 had severe reflux

We never had a false alarm and because of the two pads used it until he was 2. It clicks really loudly before the alarm goes off so you don't forget to turn it off when you take baby out. You need a traditional monitor as well to hear the babysense go off.

We even took ours on holiday as it was light and easy to pack in the middle of the suitcase.

It is really efficient - it takes AA batteries which last about 6 months and there is a little red light which starts to flash when they need replacing. It means it is not affected by powercuts etc.
