Too tall for a travel cot to hairum scarum for a ready bed...I just want a lovely weekend away!!

My DD is a good sleeper....at home. She loves her cot which is large (cotbed) and tavels up and down it as she sleeps throughout the night.

Historically she has always hated her travel cot, I am sure they must feel like they are in a cage, horrible things.

Anyhoo, we are off on a long weekend soon with friends and I am dreading the sleeping arrangements. DD is very tall for her age, over the 100th percentile and will be 2 in a month. I have tried a ReadyBed for traveling with but she thinks they are the best thing next to a trampoline. She is no way ready for a real bed yet and to be honest I want to do that at home, slowly, not throw her into a strange bed whilst on holiday and just expect her to cope.

So, what do I do? Does anyone have a folding real cot that they take away with them? It would have to be over 125cms long if I was to buy/hire one.

Help please. I have had a very stressy year and just want a lovely weekend away.

Thanks in advance.

I borrowed an extra long travel cot off a friend once, it was made by Hauck and was great for my very tall sonn as there was no way he would have fitted in our standar sized one. How old is your DD?

mrsgboring · 01/04/2009 21:26

The Nomad Travel tent is long and also safe if she starts climbing out. Pricey though.

BlueBumedFly · 01/04/2009 21:38

Forkhandles, she is almost 2. Hauck do one that is 120cms long but so is the one I have, she just hates travel cots.

MrsGB - I will have a look at these, I can see her thinking a tent is a right laugh though.

Thanks guys, appreciate your ideas. Oh for a folding wooden cot!

Pickcherries - thanks but she thinks the ready bed is actually a trampoline in disguise. The fact I go a flipping IgglePiggle one makes it all the more hilarious.... apparently!!

Thanks for taking the time to add the link thou, much appreciated.

Would she go for something like this ?

You could sell it to her as being her own special tent?

Washersaurus · 02/04/2009 22:24

I have posted this before and don't even know if they still sell them, but we have a chicco lullaby travel cot which is 129cm long - it was big enough for our 3yo to sleep in whilst camping last year (when his readybed deflated during the night).

LouIsTheEasterBilby · 02/04/2009 22:28

Is she too big for this?

I found one on ebay similar to ours - here

We use a kampa bed like this (only in blue) for DS1 (3yo) now and and DS2 (20mo) will be sleeping in one this year too, as he also hates cots (has been in a bed at home since he was about 1yo)

BlueBumedFly · 03/04/2009 13:59

Thanks guys, these are great ideas. I didn't realise there was such a big travel cot!

Thanks again, I am going to look at all of these now....

We recently arrived at a hotel at 9pm to find they didn't have a travel cot for our 1yo. They took a spare mattress (from the sofa bed in the room) and wedged it between the wall and the back of a sofa. Not ideal but it certainly workedas ds didn't wake up and there was no chance of him falling out.
Is that a possibility?

BlueBumedFly · 03/04/2009 14:43

Hayl - We could give it a go for sure, I will have to contact the cottage owner and see what they have and how the rooms are set up. Thanks for posting!

We have travelled with ds's cot mattress and he has been very happy to settle down on that - he is quite tall, but without all the cot bars, its been fine certainly until now (nearly 4). We put it up against a wall one side, with a blanket or a couple of cushions or pillows on the other. Quite soft enough for sleeping on, but not bouncy like the inflator beds.

Washersaurus · 03/04/2009 21:56

I should have said that the kampa airbed has some sort of valve system on it that means it can't really be bounced on, it is nothing like the readybed inflatable mattress.
