Co sleeping - so uncomfortable!

Hi!
The title says it all really. Have just started to co-sleep with my 4 month old as he is teething and doesn't like his cot at the mo. He really loves sleeping with me and sleeps far longer than he was in his cot but I can't seem to get comfy - my back is killing by the end of the night and we have to get up early as I can't bear to stay there any longer. It is worse when I am feeding him. I am lying on my side with my arm over the top of his head and the duvet tucked around my body. He is just lying in a grobag on the matress.

Does it normally hurt? Is there a way to do it that won't do my back in?

Thanks so much in advance

Hi, I have co-slept with all 3 of mine, but it did take some getting used to. Perhaps you aren't usually a side sleeper.
I got rid of all pillows on my side, so I could sleep on my stomach, and not worry about them wriggling up into them. Got a soft bedguard and fixed it to my side of the bed so they could go on the outside without me worrying, and slept in the middle, which gave me a bit more space than balancing on the edge. Feeding was harder though, my arm would go dead sometimes.
I must admit, we got a superkingsize bed in the end- that's the best piece of advice I can offer!!!

barbareebaa - I feel your pain! I co-slept with my 8 week old dd last night and found the same thing. Hip pain, back pain - ouch! I only became a side sleeper in pregnancy our of necessity.

We have got a bednest attached to the side of the bed for tonight - hope I can get a good few hours sleep on my stomach before dd wakes for her first feed and I slide her over to our bed.

Will be watching this thread to see if you get any other suggestions though - dd isn't going to fit in this bed nest for long!

I assume they get to an age where you don't have to sleep curled around them. Wonder when that is...

Hi, not a big co-sleeper and i'm never sure we are doing it right or safely (apart from the obvious SIDS stuff re drugs, smoking etc) but I sleep pretty much as you describe but put a few pillows down the side of my back and transfer my weight to them rather than on my hip. Might help?

I am also wondering when you can just sleep normally with them, like LuluLulabelle says.

i wait till LO comes off the boob then rescue my arm from above her head, so am side sleeping but with arms under duvet. and i swap sides for feeding so am not on same side all night. i found it v uncomfy at the start and now is fine, think i must have adjusted to it. oh, i also used to sleep on my back with the leg near her bent, iyswim (so she couldn't wriggle down). LO is 7 months and i sleep fairly normally i think, though end up curled with her anyway.

hi!
Thanks for the suggestions! Will posibly be cosleeping tonight so will try stuffing some pillows behind me - why didn't I think of that?? Also going to try sleeping on my front. Dh is still on sofa bed so have loads of room to shift about.
thanks v much!
