how do I go about putting DS3 into a bed..............

it's got to happen tonight. He climbed out of his cot this morning - ok fluke I thought - can stick to it for a bit longer.

But oh no - I put him down for a nap at 12.30 - he's just run into the living room saying "ello" with a big on his face.

So it's got to be the bed.........

It's a bottom bunk, DS2 sleep on the top. I can't remove the ladder as DS2 often gets up to use the toilet in the night.

Is he going to climb up there and fall off and break his neck?

How do I get him to stay in the bed?????

ooh not sure, have you got a bed rail?

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 15:20

no bed rail - but I never used them for DS1 and 2 - and they both survived the odd fall out of bed.......... (plus he'd probably climb over it, pull it off and then play with it )

we are also putting ds into a big bed tonight. The cot has been dismantled and the new bed put together and the new duvet has its new cover on (Ben10!). Am expecting a disturbed few nights (he is 2.5 years btw)

DS3 is nearly 22 months.

I do now have a stairgate (helpfully dropped off by DH) to put on his door) - but that doesn't solve the problem of stopping him trying to climb up to the top bunk or getting out of the bed

how is it going?!!

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 19:23

not there yet - 40 minutes until bedtime.........

I've got the stairgate up - so he will at least be confined to the bedroom

ooh good luck

have you put his favourite duvet cover on
dd (2.6) is curently driving mad as she keeps getting out of bed - have put her back at least 6 times now and I can hear her playing lego in her room

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 19:32

he doesn't have a favourite duvet cover - they all "rotate" in this house (some of them very frequently given that DS1 is still a nightly bed-wetter) LOL.

we have just put ds into his big bed - we did stories in it and then he got his kisses and cuddles from everyone. We have put his music box in with him as he had it attached to the side of his cot and used it at sleeptimes. We have also got him a go glow night light as the music box had a projector light bit that we had to take off and he doesnt like the 'dark dark'. Fingers crossed as he hasnt appeared at his door yet!!

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 20:10

he's in - just put him in..........although I can already hear the sounds of him getting out again LOL.

Great tip I saw in MN a couple of months ago..... if your ds is in a grobag, turn the bag inside out and then he won't be able to get out of it. If he can't get out of the bag, he will find it much harder to climb out of the cot. You get a few more months of peace.

Seona1973 · 21/03/2009 20:23

DS never came out or made a sound and seems to be asleep - dont know how long it will last though!!

ahh yes I remember that thread - I posted on it to tell the tales of my DS2. Was getting out of his gro-bag before he was 12 months old, so we turned it inside out, he fathomed that out within a week, turned it inside out and back to front - fathomed that out within a week too. By 12 months he was climbing out of his cot (outside the grobag) at 14/15 months he decided that he was wasting his time faffing with undoing an inside out back-to-front grobag and legged it over the side still in it

it's not going well

he was howling hysterically at the door so I went up to him (he always howls before going to sleep but I could tell he was really really upset). Gave him a cuddle and he calmed down a bit, I sat with him a while and then left - and he's crying again now........not sure if he's at the door again yet or not.
