Have you ever left your dp to put breastfed baby to bed?

and at what stage? i'm planning an evening away from my five month old ds. up until now, dp has done bath, then i've taken over, read story while breastfeeding him, put on lullaby cd and he's gone off pretty easily. my plan is to leave dp with a bottle of EBM and let him do all the other bits eg reading story, putting on cd.
do you think it'll work? has anyone else managed it? and how old was their dc?

Does he fall asleep whilst feeding and therefore asleep when put into cot?

Yeap I did and don't want to scare you but dh said it was the worst night of his life, but then my ds was a stubborn little git baby and wouldn't take the expressed milk from a bottle,
but as long as he will take a bottle you'll be fine, as we learn't with dd2 who regularily got a bottle of expressed because dh was afraid of it happening again

hux, no, i try to make sure he's not asleep when put in cot. he's usually pretty sleepy but not fast asleep. apologies for posting twice, my laptop did something weird

i shouldn't think it will be a prob then. maybe you could get your partner to put him in bed so he gets used to that for a few nights?

oh he has taken a bottle before right?

Hmm, yes, we did - DH did the late feed with EBM from about 3 or 4 weeks as far as I remember, so I could get a few hours kip. Worked fine, but then that could be because we introduced it so early.... Only one way to find out! But if you're worried, maybe have a trial run one night when you haven't made plans to go out, so you're there as a back up if it all goes pear shaped. If he refuses the bottle, you might need to get him used to that before also changing the bedtime routine. Sorry not to be more positive.... you never know, he might just guzzle down the milk regardless of how it gets to him!

thanks hux, good idea to get dp do the actual transfer into cot.
yes, he takes bottle, though weirdly he takes it happily from my cleaning lady, but last time my dp gave it, he screamed half through. it was as though either he had really bad wind or he was hungry but cross about bottle.

probably wind my daughter does the same! or she gets in a grump because it's gone cold and she wants it warmer!

i wouldn't associate it to your partner otherwise you just obsess about your partner being the problem when its really just something else.

good luck i'm off to baby massage!
