We use this one, has worked well for dd since she was 3.

bunny clock

bodiddly · 07/03/2009 12:09

thats the one we have for ds ... it works a treat!

bodiddly · 07/03/2009 12:09

a lot of people on here say their children learn how to turn it on/off from a very early age - we have never had this problem as we have hung it on the wall out of reach. Might be worth considering!

waitingforgodot · 07/03/2009 13:16

thanks all-just read a review on Amazon that said the bulb went after a year. Anyone had any problems with theirs?

I used fairy lights on a timer - much cheaper!!

bodiddly · 07/03/2009 14:39

we have had ours for probably a year or 18 months now and it is fine so far! ...

We've got this one. When the bunny on it "wakes up", we've found that the action of the ears springing up and the eyes opening makes quite a clanking sound and so ds will wake up whatever. So basically, if we set it to 7.00 to signify that he has to stay in his room until then, even if he's still asleep come 7 (ha!) it will wake him up. Bummer. Ds isn't a light sleeper, but guess that just before a natural wake up time is when light sleep happens anyway so he's more easily disturbed. So definitely not recommended!

I like the look of the gro clock but I think it's really new and no one really has it yet!

themoon66 · 07/03/2009 23:38

Saw the word 'rabbit' in thread title and though.... Ooooh.

liath · 08/03/2009 21:31

We've had problems with the bulb going in the bunny clock. It's a right bugger to replace and has just gone again. The concept is good but the clock itself is fairly crap quality TBH.

bodiddly · 10/03/2009 08:20

that gro clock looks better quality than the rabbit clock angel ...

Trinityrhino · 10/03/2009 08:23

I had the rabbit clock and it was very loud when the ears popped up

it was waking my non early riser earlier than normal aswell as the early riser

it also broke very easily when I knocked it off a low shelf

pippibluestocking · 10/03/2009 08:24

We have the elephant one (Lumilove) and DD doesn't like it. It is quite bright and when it turns red, it looks satanic! I am not sure I would recommend it based on DD's experience but if you google Lumilove, you will get lots of hits.

pippibluestocking · 10/03/2009 08:25

Oh, sorry I think you are talking about a different thing - Lumilove isn't a clock - ignore me!

I have just got the Gro Clock from Bump to 3. I've no idea how to do the link to it, as i'm quite new to Mumsnet! But if you go to www.bumpto3.com and search for it, its there and in stock. ITS FANTASTIC!!! I had the Bunny Clock for my older children and they broke it and one of them was scared of it, so I gave it away, I now had a 3 year old, and he just loves the Gro Clock. The stars go out one by one, so he can tell if its the middle of the night or nearly time to get up, and the book it comes with is really fun too. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a Grobag fan, so I'll try pretty much anything they do, and I really laughed, as they have the Grobag Egg in the book too (in the chicken's nest). DS says every night "I got one those" and points to the Egg. Then there is a bit in the book, where you set the Gro Clock, it winks at you and the sun turns into the moon. Its gentle, easy to understand, fun and ITS WORKING! I'm afraid I'm going to become a Gro-clock bore, and I'm adding messages to all these threads about early risers, because its one of those life changing things that gives you more sleep (infact just like the Grobag!). And I will do absolutely anything for more sleep!

Tibbsie · 10/06/2009 14:12

Got the Gro clock also.

Total nightmare!

My son was sleeping less with it as he was waking up and watching the stars change.

Completely counter productive I'm afraid.

Not recommended..

VanessaMuchLessa · 10/06/2009 14:21

My DS has a bunny clock - got it when he was nearly two, he's now 4.6. We've been really pleased with it. Yes he went through a phase of fiddling with it but stopped soon enough. He got the hang of it pretty quickly and now at four and a half you can often hear he's awake in his room but he never ever comes out before 7 (when it's set for). He now has a "proper" clock next to it as well so he can see the small hand move slowly to the 7.

We've got through several bulbs, not least when it's been packed and taken on holidays (don't go anywhere without it) but they're easily available online and we haven't found it that difficult to change the bulb.

Flo23 · 10/06/2009 14:21

We had the illuminated bunny clock, but the bulb went within a couple of months and it isnt a size that is easy to replace.

Wouldn't recommend it, DS would just flick the switch on the side and say, 'look it's morning!'

Flo23 · 10/06/2009 14:23

...or maybe I just didnt look hard enough for a replacement!

notyummy · 10/06/2009 14:23

We also have the one linked to by littlesarah - the nightlight with the rabbit that wakes up. This can be set to just change via the light (so no noise to wake them up if they are still sleeping), or you can set it have birds tweeting loudly at wake-up time.

It has worked like a charm for our dd since 2.4 months. In 6 months she has only come out of her room twice when she wasn;t supposed to. She is dry at night and gets up and goes to the bathroom for a wee, but knows to go back to bed and look at books quietly/play with cuddly toys until the rabbit wakes up.

Judicious use of stickers at first and LOTS of praise in the beginning also helped.

Hi there, new to site and desperate for advice. I have 2 sons, 3yr 1 mth and 16mths. Am expecting also in 10 weeks. For the last 3 weeks my 3 yr old has decided he doesn't like sleep. Before this he slept without any trouble from 7-7.30 through to the morning between 7-8. He gets really upset now and won't go to sleep unless either me or hubby lie with him. He finally goes to sleep but wakes up half dozen times. Again having to stay with him until he falls alseep. He has slept in our bed a few times but that because he insisted and screamed the house down. We have nice bed routine, have tried soft approach and supernappy approach but nothing working. Did by the gro clock last week but although he loves the clock he ignores the fact he has to stay in bed and comes into our room anyway. When you ask him what moon and sun means he answers it right so he understands what he has to do but he can't. We so so tired and I need to try and crack this before new baby arrives. Should I stick with the clock or try something else? Any ideas greatly welcome. Many thanks
