Transitioning DD into her own bed

DD is 2.5 and still sleeps in my bedroom. Sometimes she sleeps through, sometimes she wakes in the night, in which case she comes into bed with me for the rest of the night.

We are both very happy with this arrangement. It isn't a problem.

However, I have recently bought her a big-girl bed and made the spare room all pretty and girlified for her. She absolutely loves the room and the bed and adores playing 'going for a nap' in her 'special bed'.

But on the two occasions that I suggested very gently - 'Would you like to go to sleep in your special bed tonight' - she got hysterical.

So while I have no plans to make her sleep in there until she is ready, how can I make the idea more 'user-friendly' for her? Should I keep offering the option? Or just wait until she asks?

Does she play in her room in the day time? Also are all her clothes in there so you can put her clothes on in there? At nighttime you could change her into her PJs in there and she could lie in her bed with her nighttime drink and have a story. Then if she wants she can stay there or go into your room? Then in the morning when she wakes up bring her into her own room to get changed and play.

Her clothes are in there, but no toys - it's such a small room that the toys are all downstairs. We could try doing bedtime in there though and see how it goes.

Thanks.

Could you perhaps just keep a few books in there and few other toys. You could keep them in a small box and change them every day or so, so that she doesn't get bored of them.

Also a good idea.

She really likes going in there and playing on the bed. Putting some of her things in there will make her feel more like it is her room too, I guess.
