maternity pillows - comfortable sleep in preganancy???!

I am in my third trimester and having great difficulty getting a good nights sleep. My back is killing and ive started to snore (an absolute first!). Ive seen loads of different maternity pillows on US websites but cannot find any in the UK. There is a wedge shaped pillow i got from Boots which helps me sleep on my side but it just falls on the floor and isnt that comfortable. Any ideas where i can find a better solution?

Hi stripeycat, I think Blooming Marvellous also do a wedge type cushion. A v-cushion is a great investment, during pregnancy, take it to hospital and for at home when feeding etc.

I pushed my bed against the wall in my first pregnancy and tried to get my back flat against it whilst stuffing pillows between my knees and also sleeping quite upright - you might find that lots of 'standard' pillows wedged all around you work better than one 'pregnancy' pillow

I think the v shaped pillow sounds like a good idea. I used loads of pillows in the end. Thin feather pillows are ideal for under the bump and between the knees. I also had to prop myself up due to indegestion. I did snore but that was the least of my worries and stopped after I gave birth.

I haven't been able to sleep through the night for the majority of my pregnancy (now 36 weeks) - had itchy skin, piles, pee breaks, indigestion and now heartburn - most nights I fall asleep for about 40 mins and then am up til 3-4am when I eventually join my husband in the land of nod - now I've given up work I sleep til 9 - 10.00 and feel bad - I don't feel refreshed at all - is this the end to my wonderful sleep patterns of pre-pregnancy when I'd sleep solidly for 7-8 hours?? Please say it'll return - beginning to feel like a raged lunatic just escaped from the asylum!! Any ideas?

At some point you will get to sleep for 7-8 hours again although prob not for a bit. Why not make the most of the peace and quiet. If you can't sleep, make yourself a cup of camomile, get out your book, check your email, listen to the world service.

You may well find that this is mother nature's way of breaking you in for what's to come.

hi darjeeling

i really sympathise - the last weeks of pregnancy are awful aren't they? never mind, not long to go. i found lavender oil sprinkled liberally on the pillows before i went to sleep very relaxing and i used to go to sleep sucking a rennie...

unfortunately, new mums don't tend to get much sleep for obvious reasons! however, there's nothing to stop you hoping for the best - i used to have to get up at least three times in the night to pee from 27 weeks onward, but my baby only got me out of bed once during the night! you never know...

since you are now off work, would it be possible to catch up on your sleep with naps during the day?

the heartburn disappears immediately once you have given birth.

anyway, good luck.

Grobag, who make the baby sleeping bags, sell maternity pillows in different sizes, they have a websit.

I have to confess to snoring REALLY badly both times during pregnancy and at one point went as fas as to use the most attractive option of those breathe easy plasters on my nose MMMmmm boy are they sexy - so not only do I look and feel like a large heffalump, lose my v pillow during the night (although it has been the best solution yet to sleeping) and go for a pee every two hours I now look like a rugby player!! It does stop the snoring though.!!

Bloss you may have already tried these solutions to your blocked up nose but here goes anyway...

Increase your water intake (as if you wouldn't be in the heat I know!!), cut down on bananas and dairy and try kali bich homeopathic remedy for blocked sinuses.
