Daytime sleep suddenly gone splat - any ideas?

Hello. Max is 7w4d and has been a very good daytime sleeper. He needs lots of sleep and gets extremely grumpy if he doesn't get it - it took us a little while to realise that, but now we have we make sure he gets his naps. Generally that's been mid-morning, around lunchtime and then mid-late afternoon, with that last one being a long one of up to 3 hours. He's been good at settling himself to sleep as well - he can't always do it, but it's not unusual for him to do it.

He's had a nasty cold and cough but none the less he's slept loads and to more or less that pattern. Yesterday though he would not drop off for more than half an hour or so and was so grumpy - I was in quite a bad mood myself by bedtime! The night was okay, but not brilliant with him waking within an hour of the last feed a couple of times, so this morning I was determined that he was going to get his naps come hell or high water. He started yawning about 90 mins after waking up, just perfect for a nap, and he wanted a feed, so I fed him and he dropped off. I put him in his cot and 2 mins later - WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I put his mobile on and left him, and on and off I heard brief wails but the interval between them got longer and he went to sleep for an hour tops, but much much better than nothing.

DH put him in his bouncy chair to sleep while I had my Saturday morning soak in the bath, but he wouldn't go off, so DH walked round the garden with him on this gorgeous morning and he zapped out. DH put him in his bouncy chair, and about 15 mins later he woke up. I tried to settle him, nope, he wouldn't go off. I then fed him, he zapped out, put him down, WAAAAAAAAA.

Now getting quite narked with it. I'm in the same room as him talking to him quietly while I type this and he's going quiet from time to time. With the best will in the world I can't sit and hold him for an hour while he sleeps (I can list 99 good reasons if anyone needs them, I'm not just being a mean mummy!) so he needs to sleep either in his seat (which has never been a problem before) or in his cot. Trouble is he's good in his cot at night and I don't want to spoil that.

Has anyone else has noticed this sudden refusal to sleep - or sleep for long - in the daytime?

MrsHD I feel for you - my DS is brilliant at sleeping at night and brilliant at self settling but lately 1 hour into his lunchtime nap he wakes and won't go back to sleep despite being obviously knackered. In fact, its one hour in and he just this minute started crying! Let battle commence (luckily DH is here today!)

Don't have any real suggestions but I feel for you! One thing I will add is that I am sure it will unsettle a baby falling asleep in one place and waking up in another - my DS would never resettle himself if I did this so now I always put him down in his cot awake (or if we go out in the pram I leave him in there till then end of his nap). In fact I put him down wide awake - before he even seems tired (1hr 45mins after he last woke) and then he settles himself (with a light show on for 10 mins).

Good luck!
