8 MO crying in her sleep

I need to know if this is a common problem and how I solve it ! since about Christmas my DD has started to cry in her sleep. This can be several times a night. Sometimes if we leave her she will stop, other times she starts to choke and cough, so I have to pick her up. Then she wakes up, and needs to be calmed down. It seems to happen at roughly the same time every night so I worry that by picking her up Im creating some sort of habit. It means that neither me nor my DH have had a good nights sleep for weeks now, which isnt great as we are both shattered. And I thought that by now we should be getting a good nights sleep again !

DD is a good sleeper, she only naps for about 2 hours total during the day and falls asleep by herself, even after a crying episode in the middle of the night.

Has anyone else had this problem ? and how long did it last for ?

My 8mo DD doesn't cry, but she has recently (past 2 weeks I'd say) started whimpering at intervals in the night, as if she's uncomfortable or has wind. She's bedsharing with us, so generally, I respond pretty much immediately, and try putting her to the breast, but more often than not, just moving her seems to calm her (she's asleep during all this, I would add).

It sounds like yours is generally a good sleeper (and more impressively a good falling asleeper, unlike mine ), so you should be pleased with yourself about that! I don't think you're creating bad habits. Could you try just moving her or rolling her over in her sleep? That way you don't wake her and she doesn't even know what's going on.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that you're not quite alone, and perhaps it's a developmental thing, if both our DDs are doing the same? I've put it down to the fact that my BLW baby is now eating more solid food than before, so the strange experience of digesting it is causing her some consternation! I can sometimes here the bubbles and popping as I lie next to her!

My 8 month old ds does the same, but I have started leaving him and he goes back to sleep pretty quickly now. Usually happens at the same times too each night.
