Please someone help me! My 11mon dd has stopped napping during the day for more than 10 mins and is soooo tired by the night that she cannot seem to sleep for longer than 2 hours at a time!

She has a dummy which is attached to her grow bag and sleeps in her own cot day & night. Doctor has given us Vallergan syrup which i was worried about giving her but when I did it seemed 10 times worse. She has been teething and has 8 teeth now but it can't be teething all the time can it?

Any advice would be greatly received

I feel for you, my 2 yr old dd went through a similar phase at that age, I just went through a process of elimination, made sure there was nothing medically wrong, then tried all the usual teething products, used to take her out in the car to get her off (still do),propped her cot up, doc said the teething can affect the pressure on the ears so lying flat is more painful, eventually things improved before I tried the whole Controlled Crying malarkey. explore all avenues and do what gets you through! Good luck...

No she is probably not teething all the time but if she has been teething recently it has probably unsettled her. DS' sleep is always unsettled for a bit after he's been ill.

For daytime naps I can recommend blackout blinds and curtains.

Does she have any sort of comforter? DS was about this age when he became attached to his. If she hasn't got one a cheap and easy way to make one is to stuff a muslin down your bra for a few hours or spray your perfume on it if you wear it. Muslins are ideal cos if they get lost they are easily replacable.

Thanks guys, DD has a dummy and a bunny in her cot but the bunny is not that loved, I will try the muslin down the bra tomorrow. I have black out blinds and curtains but I don't use them during the day. Should I try it? DD's cot is permently proped up at the moment she has a cough at night which wakes her up and then she just cry's. Doctor checked her chest but she is fine and it only happens at nap time/ bed time.

I would definitely try the blinds and curtains in the daytime. I find it incredibly hard to sleep in the daytime unless i have the curtains drawn and i have to have really thick lined ones that block out most of the light.

My LO hasn't ever slept well in the day (9mo) until I recently gave up and sleep on my bed with him for naps. Not a great option but gets him to have some sleep and a bit of rest for me too (as he also doesn't sleep well at night either). I know it doesn't give you any time to do stuff either, but if he's not sleeping anyway you don't get that time PLUS you have a grumpy LO!

Molars were five months of hell for my DS -- most of which was long before there was any evidence of them on his gum. In a straw poll on another forum, 5 months wasn't uncommon.
