I am in week 2 of being back at work full time. DS was fine last week and usually wakes between 5.30 and 6.30. He's not hungry, dirty or ill and so I have tried settling him with a dummy/a cuddle/leaving him to cry but he will not go back to sleep again for any method! I imagine it's because he's got a new routine but it would help if everyone agreed so at least I could blame it on something! Any suggestions on how to tackle it as I am knackered and trying to do a 9-5. Thanks

He could be cold Amber - 4am is supposed to be the coldest time of night.

What happens if you feed him?

Alternatively - is he getting enough sleep during the day?Or having too much? Do his carers let him nap in the late afternoon for example?

Ooh - I never thought of cold but his room has a heater on and he's wearing a sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog growbag.

We tried to feed him last night and he refused it.

He may not be getting enough sleep in the day as he is at nursery but he has 3 naps of about 45 mins each. Thing is he was fine last week and his routine was the same (and it was colder!)

my dd doesnt sleep very well when she doesnt have a big nap at lunchtime - over an hour. Though as you say that cant really be it if it was ok last week.

It might just be developmental - learning to cope with a new skill etc - that can upset them as well I think.

When our dd wakes up before 5.30 we keep her in her dark room so she knows that its still nighttime and then bring her out at 6.
