From Cot to Bed, DD wants to but just can't manage it

I was happy (ish) with my 23mo dd's sleep routine. Book at 7pm, 2 songs then kiss goodnight, put in cot and would sit next to the cot for 15 mins until she fell asleep.

She's never been a great sleeper and quite often we end up in a single bed in her room. I quite often sneak out and go back to my bed. She also sometimes has a daytime nap, she'll do this in the "Big Bed" (the single bed).

A few nights ago I went to put her in her cot and she started to get upset and shout "Big Bed". She was pretty determined so I put her in the big bed. She wriggled around for half an hour before I put her back in the cot, she was to tired to argue but it took her a further half an hour before she properly dropped off.

This has been our routine since and it's making me dread bedtime, what used to take 15mins now takes an hour. I know some people will think I'm lucky to have a child that goes down in 15 mins but it has been almost 2 years of nightmare sleep patterns and it's taken allot of hard work and my bible the no cry sleep solution to get her do this.

Can anyone make any suggestions to make this transition easier?

Bumping for you.

Why did you put her back in the cot? If she has day time naps in it, why not try her for the night?

Because she wriggles about so much and can't seem to get comfy. When she naps in the bed during the day, it's much brighter and she'll just drift off without any wriggling. At night she also lifts up her head to check and see if I'm still there. I don't think the bed is as soft as her cot and she perhaps feels a bit insecure.
