Is it ok that my 27 week DS is taking a nap on his tummy?

Sorry if i am just being paranoid but I am trying to get 27 week old DS to start taking naps in his cot. Amazingly he has gone to sleep today, rather than just rolling over and playing and then starting to scream to come out.

However, he has rolled over, despite my best effort to keep him in place with a blanket.

He is now lying on his tummy, breathing into the mattress basically.

Is this safe??

once they can roll over they are ok (I think!) my eldest 2 did that all the time settled much better on their tummies, back is always recommended but as far as I am aware if they roll its ok, otherwise you would have to stand over them the whole time and flip them!

thanks. It seems like it is easy for them to roll over to their tummy with a sleep bag on, but harder to roll back.

i do hate being paranoid.

I don't think you're being paranoid. At least, if I did then I would be too If dd is crying or wedged sideways I will rescue her but otherwise I don't interfere when she's on her tummy. She does seem to sleep better!

If you are worried you could get one of those motion-sensor mats. An alarm sounds if all movement, including breathing, stops.

from 6 months you can let them sleep in whatever position they like although I always put my lo's to sleep on their back at the start of nap/bedtime. They normally ended up face down with their bum poked in the air and their legs tucked up underneath!!

as a paranoid mum, i do actually have a sensor pad but as a slummy mummy, it's not actually hooked up since he moved from cradle to cot!

Once they can roll over they should be grand
Mine used to do that with their wee bums up in the air

I always put my lo to sleep on his back but within the time it takes me to turn on the monitor and turn out the light he's on his front. He's done this from when he learnt to roll over at 12 weeks.

Also he's crawling already (6months old) and although we have a motion sensor am considering turning it off as he sets it off most nights by getting to the top of the cot and our attempts to move him to the bottom again usually result in us waking him up - not great when it's 3am and it then takes us an hour to settle him again!
