I need 7mo dd to sleep through the night in her cot...

7mo dd is a nightmare at night and its my fault!

We have sort of co slept since she was 2mo but she is in a snuggle nest on my bed. She goes to sleep at 7pm in her cot with no problems then when she wakes at 1am ish she comes in with me.

Usually she sleeps all night then until 8.30am. The last week or so she has been waking for 2 hours at random times in the night then again at 6.30am ish.

Last night she was awake from 1am to 3am then at 6am where I cuddled her back to sleep and we slept like that until 8.30.

She is having her first night away from us soon and so we want her sleeping through the night in her cot.

Come and tell me how please. Cc doesnt work with dd at all nor does patting her back to sleep! Thanks x

I would have a go at not bringing her in to you at 1am if she wakes. It may take some doing as it is a habit now that she is used to, but stick with it. This will mean you will be tired and it will be hard work if have to go in to her several times to settle, but worth it in the long run?!
Perhaps now she is getting bigger she needs her cot? Maybe out growing the co sleeping?
You may be surprised and she just sleeps all night in her cot?
Try just settling her in own room in cot if wakes at 1am?
Night waking can be associated to various things, development/growth spurts etc.
Is she crawling/walking?
My DS started to crawl at 7 months and we had waking then, then again when started walking. I will watch the thread, keep me updated xx

She goes in her cot from 7pm and is in her own roomm.

Thanks for the tips. I will give it a go tonight.

The other thing we thought is that she may be cold. I might leave her heater on low tonight and see if that also helps.

She is trying to crawl at the mo and was rolling over a lot this morning instead of going to sleep!!

often when they start to move around more they get a little unsettled when in bed. Do you use a grow bag/sleeping bag? Keep me posted on how u get on.

IAteMakkaPakka · 01/02/2009 20:00

Sounds like a devlopmental thing. Once she's moving she might settle down again of her own accord

lauraloola · 01/02/2009 20:34

She has a long sleeved body suit, fleece sleep suit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. We only have gas heaters though and it does get very cold.

She has never slept through. Stupidly I did whatever to get a nice sleep and had her in with me! Poor Dp is still on the sofa

I will give it a go tonight and update in the morning. Wish me luck...

Laura how did it go? Just so you know, you are not alone, I am on here daily as my 21 month DS has been waking 5-5.30am every day since new year! I have been trying wake to sleep technique which works, I did for 5 nights quite successfully, didn't wake him last night...and he woke 5.45 so it's back to the start again today!! Awful torturous lack of sleep is, stick with it.
Get DP back in bed with you and even if you have to keep going in to DD it will be worth it in the long run

lauraloola · 02/02/2009 09:28

Well....

I left her heater on low and didnt hear a peep out of her until 6am!!! I did try to settle her but it was cold in her room so she came in with me!

I cant believe it. I think its a one off though so will see what happens tonight.

Lack of sleep is the worst thing. My cousin was an early waker so he was bought an alarm clock and was told he had to stay in bed until it went off at 7am. Have you tried that? It worked for them!

I haven't tried the clock yet as think DS just a little too young? Am going to try WTS again now for few more nights just to see me through my days back at work...I have to be up at 5.30 anyway for work Wed, Thurs Fri this week. Contemplated going back to bed now DS in nursery...but watching TV eating toat with cuppa instead. Glad you managed to get extra sleep Laura. x

What is the wake to sleep?? It sounds like it works.

Im going to leave the heater on again tonight and see what happens. Just have to sort out her staying in her cot until 8am now!

WTS is good when your DS/DD wakes at the same time every night/early morning. My DS waking between 5-5.30am every day. Driving us insane, he making an annoying screech noise half awake half asleep. So the idea is you wake them 1 hour before their usual wake up time. Rouse them so that eyes open slightly then leave room. They go straight back to sleep but as you have woken them from their deepest sleep, they then sleep past their 'wake up time'. It has worked up to now every time I have woken him. I did it for 5 nights but last night tried not waking him and he cried out 4.45am then nothing til 5.45am, still too early for us. So am going to do again for another few nights.

Yes leave the heater on see what happens. Let me know. Fingers crossed for a good night all round!

lauraloola · 02/02/2009 21:44

I have never heard of that before. I will remember that incase dd is an early riser later on.

Good luck with that tonight too. Heres hoping for a good nights sleep

Laura, Did DD sleep? I woke DS 4.30 (set my alarm, it's all wrong) and he still woke 5.45. Am going to stick with it 5 more nights.

lauraloola · 03/02/2009 15:26

I caved and put dd in bed with me at 11pm! It was freezing last night and she only slept snuggled into me so she must have been cold.

Going to see what happens tonight and may try leaving the heater on higher.

Nightmare! Does it take a few days to get your ds into that again?

It makes me laugh that in a few years we will be moaning that they wont get out of bed
