Anyone else's child shout themselves to sleep?

I seem to spend all my time in this topic!

5.5m DD has stopped feeding to sleep all by herself, instead she shouts herself to sleep. I tried comforting her the first few times but she shouted louder until we were both upset, so i gave up & just lay next to her - within seconds she fell asleep . She does it during the night when she wakes up too which, since we're co-sleeping, ends up with me awake and her beautifully asleep . I'm very glad that she can fall asleep by herself, but does this sound normal?

My ds has always been a shouter (well, since he was a couple of months old)! He's 5 months now and has expanded his repertoire to shrieking, chatting and blowing raspberries. I used to worry and feel upset but then realised he wasn't crying - I think it's just how he winds down. Like you, if I leave him to it, he's asleep in about 10-15 mins, if I interfere, it all goes wrong. Sometimes it ramps up to crying and I go and reassure him, otherwise I leave him to it. As long as he's not still doing it as a teenager!

(He also shouts for food rather than cries! I think he's just a shouty kind of baby.)

DS, now 5, used to rock himself against the bars of his cot shouting "Yay yay yay". Had completely forgotten about it til I saw your post - it went on for well over a year. Visitors and especially babysitters used to find it quite odd - they'd ask what the strange banging and wailing was we'd say "That's ds - just dropping off." Did used to wonder if he'd still be doing it when he was old enough to have girlfriends (quite a handicap I should imagine!) like most phases it just stopped suddenly.

Not just mine then, cheers.

at 4, Riven you have the patience of a saint. Just seen your other thread about the nutter on the bus, I would have been SOOO rude to the silly bint.

My ds 5.5 months is so shouty. I'd hate to be our neighbours! He shouts all day rather than cries whenever he wants something. He's been quite vocal right from the start.

Yes my DS (6 months) does some squeals (happy ones) and grunts, singing and all sorts of odd noises when going to sleep and if I try to talk back to him or interfere in the slightest he'll get upset and will cry but will happily nod off by doing this and rocking himself by pushing his foot against me or anything next to him.

I still have a bet on that G will be talking really early!
