4 month old waking 45 mins after bedtime

Hello, my 4 month old goes to sleep well after a bf and bath, at around 7.30, but she then wakes after 45 mins and feeds for about an hour. I have tried feeding more before bed but that doesnt seem to change anything. She then sleeps from 9pm ish and has one night time wake. Any ideas? I have thought about a pre bed bottle but she gets upset at the sight of bottles now. This means that babysitting is not really an option at the moment. We are hoping to go out 14 Feb so I would like to figure this out before then! Any help gratefully received thank you.

I think this is normal - particularly the 45 minute thing, it's something to do with sleep cycles. I bet she's still cluster feeding in her own way and when she enters light sleep decides to wake in order to stoke up on food for the night. It might have passed anyway in a fortnight. I would doubt there's much you can do to change it but it will probably pass in its own time. What a good sleeper otherwise though!

What are her day time naps like? DD2 always used to wake up about 45 mins after settling, but I found that by improving her daytime naps it (finally) stopped.

My friend has this 'problem' with her DD who is 10 months. She always has woken 45 mins after being put to bed. They just go up and comfort her but don't pick her up and she seems to go back to sleep most times. She then either wakes 45 mins later and they do the same thing, or she just sleeps thru till morning. I don't know why she wakes after 45 mins and then never again thru the night. Have you tried comforting DD rather than feeding her? Like you say, you've fed her 45 mins before she wakes up so chances are she's just waking up for a bit of comfort or that's her natural sleep rhythm/habit.

As lou said, it could be something to do with naps. Friend's DD only ever naps for 3 x 45 mins during the day and never sleeps more than 45 mins so wonder if there's a connection there.....

My 3 month boy does this, we used to take him into the living room to feed him but this would just make him more awake. We now feed him in the nursery in the dark and only whisper to him and he will then feed and go back within 1/2 hr - its annoying but at least hes not screamng his head off for an hour or more.

Hi Krainy my little babe does this too and has been doing it (on and off, but mainly on!) since she was about 2 months. How long has your LO been in this pattern? I am hoping she will just grow out of it once her sleep patterns mature - apparently they get longer than 45mins as they get older. Although lovelymama's story of 10month old is somewhat demoralising! It is hard work isn't it.

It is good that your LO goes back to sleep, my daughter is not so keen on that! Despite settling self very well at 7pm... Very odd. Does she have her eyes open or shut when she wakes? Mine has her eyes shut so can be rocked for a while, then grows more and more insistent! Also, she has started waking up every 3 hours in the night - used to only be once. So another hope is that it will improve once she is fully weaned. Oh well, hope things get better soon! But in the meantime, everyone tells me don't worry, just go with it, do what they want etc.

I started a V similar thread when my LO was about 3 months old. My DS is now over 6 months old and has only just started to sleep longer than 45 mins during the day, he would wake up on the dot after 3/4 hour and would not go back to sleep. It used to irritate me so much. He is better now but it is still a bit of a lottery. He sleeps well at night though, hang in there it is annoying but as LO gets older it improves.
