23mo taking an hour to fall asleep at naptime... WWYD?

DS has started getting trickier to get down for naps, I have a feeling this could be the beginning of the end

He used to have 90 minutes from 12.30-2 that he would fall asleep for straight away.

The last few weeks he has been taking up to half an hour to settle, today it has taken him an hour (during which time he was quite happily chatting in his cot).

So should I let him sleep for 90 minutes, though he wouldn't get up til 3 and that might affect bedtime (he doesn't go down til 8 as it is)?

Or wake him up around 2 as normal (so he would only have had half an hour)?

Or somewhere in between??

I would try without see how his behaviour is and start putting him to bed about 6.30/7pm instead

Some dc give up their nap and stay in an okay mood, others become awful. You may be able to go to a nap every 2nd or 3rd day.

NOt necessarily the 'end'

Maybe a nap every other day? dd2 does this

Could you put him down at 1215?

Thanks. I don't think putting him down for his nap earlier would make a difference, besides we don't get back from playgroup til gone 12.

I think I'll wake him in 5 minutes so he will have had just under an hour -- that should keep him going til bedtime. And see what happens tomorrow!

My fear is that if I don't put him down at all at lunchtime, he will fall asleep while out and about in the afternoon then not want to go to bed til late...

22mo DD tends to nap for an hour, starting any time from 1.30-2.30pm. TBH a later nap does not seem to affect her 7pm bedtime in the slightest.

Also, she did have a weird phase of not napping at all for a couple of months, but the nap does now seem firmly back in favour.

Well, I woke him after an hour and he was grumpy for a while but has been fine the rest of the afternoon. We're going to try a slightly earlier bedtime as well, perhaps if he wakes a little earlier in the morning he'll be keener to nap.

Glad you got your naps back PB!
