8 month old - daytime naps

Hello all,

My baby turns 8 months in a fortnight. She's taken three naps a day for many months now. Currently they are:

9am-9.40am (I kid you not; I can set my clock to this!)
12pm-12.30/1pm (shorter nap if out and about in pushchair; longer if at home in cot)
3.15pm-4.30pm

She sleeps through 7pm to 6.30/7am.

Ideally I would like her to drop the last nap and lengthen the lunchtime one so that we can go out and about more in the afternoon (attend activities).

Does it happen naturally that as she moves into 9/10/11 months onwards that this will happen naturally? Some mums I know have babies who take one short morning nap and then a 12-2pm nap and then have free (awake) afternoons.

I am not complaining about my DD's sleep habits as they are great, but I would like her to be awake for a longer chunk of time in the afternoon so we can do more activities.

At the moment she wakes up from her naps happy and rested but she needs 2 to 3 hours in the day or she is very crabby.

Thanks.

O

Sounds pretty typical - my DS had a nap schedule very similar to this at that age. And yes, the afternoon nap is the first to go - you probably won't need to do anything. At about 9 months DS was having just two naps: 9.30 for an hour and 2-3.30ish.
