Hello

Last niht i started creating dd's sleep logs to try and work out what we are doing wrong. I gave up noting them after 2 am out of sheer exhaustion when i just plonked her down next to me, and although she woke up at various other times in the night i didnt note the times down. can i still use this as my nighttime log to try and figure out where we go from here or do i need to be more scientific about it~?

THink the more scientific the better as they can try to work out where they are in a sleep cycle when it happens.

Having said that, If you are that exhausted I think the picture should be clear. To be honest, I used to make mine up when I was too knackered to write notes : sometimes I was so tired that I couldn't even remember how often she'd woke.

Not sure how old your DC is but I have ended up on controlled crying with each of mine (3) and it never took long (although it was bloody traumatic). They get unsettled after teething, holidays or illnesses, but usually settle quickly when I have the stamina to let them cry.

Good luck

I am doing my 10 day log tonight. With the first log I too lost track of all the wakings but worked out that it was 5 and the rough times the next morning. As you do a log every 10 days or so I wouldn't worry too much as you will be doing another by the end of next week.

BTW the last 2 nights have been been better. Just thought I would mention it as it may give you some hope.

Good luck!

Doh! Shouldn't have said anything. Rubbish night last night longest stretch was 3h30 the night before he had done 7h45! However Pantley does say not to get disheartened with bad nights. On the positive side we only had 3 wakings down from 5 initially, but they were long ones, and DS woke up for good at 5.10.

Trying to improve naps as he has always been a reluctant napper, and trying but failing to get the daytime more predictable, it is tricky because the absence of predictable naps throws the timing of meals etc out of the window.

I am also working on the nipple pull out thing with a view to putting him down increasingly awake. I think this is getting better. I find it hard in the night though: I am so dog tired that I fall asleep whilst nursing him and then wake up and hour later to find a sleeping baby on me!
