DSs routine is all over the place ATM so i am trying to get him on one nap a day.

he's 11m and wont go down for his morning nap anymore but is too tired to stay up past 12.

he wakes at 7am on the dot so i was wondering if there is anyway to make him sleep a bit longer in the morning so he can last until 12.30.

just to add his afternoon nap is about 1 and a half hours long and he goes to bed at about 6.30pm

Bumping for you.

I wish - 8am would do me nicely ;) My DS has a similar routine and usually goes for his nap 11.30-1 and I just give him his lunch when he wakes up. Works fine. Or if he seems particularly hungry I give him his lunch early - about 11.30 - and put him down about 12.

He manages then without any more naps until bedtime at 8pm.

just a thought, but if he always wakes at 7 on the dot are you sure that its not something external waking him? DD2 is woken by the heating coming on. Or could it be your alarm or neighbours for example?

I think most would join me in a at not being woken til 7!!

drjane, thats what have to do with ds, except he can't last past 6.30pm

blowingonabreeze, no external noises, we have our room at the back of the house so we dont get street noises. not the alarm clock either, ds is so regular he is our alarm clock.

I think to a certain extent, you cannot reset their clock, sorry.
Our DD (2.11) is our alarm clock too! Though she does wake later than your DS....

She always has a stir at 12:50 at night- and this was the time she was always awake in the womb, and as a newborn- we always listened to 'Sailing By' on R4 then she would go to sleep.

I think it is something innate in them.
On days when we do have to get up early (rarely, thank goodness) she is an utter grumpy nightmare to get up and get ready.

We are going to start practicing soon for school

My brother was like this too as a child- we used to joke he was a robot- switched off at midnight, turned back on at 6am on the dot. He still wakes at that time now, as an adult.

when my ds started going to 1 nap he would have it around 11am and have his lunch when he woke up. Only as he got a bit older did he start going for his nap later and we eventually got to the stage where he has his lunch at 12pm and went for his nap afterwards. We are still at that stage mind you and he is 2.3 years!!

7am ds wakes at 5am

ChristmasPenguin · 16/01/2009 14:48

hah, 7am? DS went through a 3 month long horrible period of waking any time between 4:30 and 5:30 am!!

Have you tried very gradually moving his lunchtime nap back a bit? DS used to want to nap at about 10am, but would then be really tired later in the day. Just pushe dit back slightly and he's now going down at about 11:30, then lunch when he wakes up. Still trying to push it slightly further back though.

Oh, and he still wakes early, there's no changing that I reckon!

If anybody has the secret of teaching a 1 year old to sleep past 7am, please please tell me!!

:-D
