Is 6 months a big sleep pattern change time?

My DS sleep has gone tits up in the last 3 weeks. He's gone from 6.30 with dream feeds at 10 and 2 to sleep at 6.30 ish with a wakening 40 minutes in and then a struggle to get him back to sleep again. One night it was 3.30 before proper sleep another was 12.15, last night was 9 pm but he woke at 10.30 in a very upset state.

I am not sure if I keep going with a 6.30 bedtime or extend it? 6.30 has always been great.

He has always been a 3 x 40 minute napper during the day but more recently he's getting very tired by 5 pm - might be because he's more active?

Anyone with any experience think I should give him another 40 minute nap around 4 ish and then give him a later bed time?

I am here on my own in the evenings due to husband's work so it is hard going. Any tips/experience appreciated!

Might be a growth spurt, so could be hungry. With my DD I increased her feeds in the day, and the bedtime one, and this helped.

He used to also wake around 4 am but was able to self settle. Not now as he rolls over in his cot, gets stuck and then starts to cry. He can't roll back but gets stuck between the rails of the cot.

Mine does that too - she rolls on to her front and is too lazy to roll back, even though she can perfectly well. So she just lies there and moans til I come to turn her over. What a life eh? 'Someone come and turn me over please! Am too tired to do it myself!'

Just seen this thread - and I've been wondering the same too - we're having shocking nights at the mo. Hurumph.

Has Ds teeth coming and may be wind from weaning?

walkingwomb · 09/01/2009 15:28

Teeth ruined my dds sleeping at 6 months. I thought it was a crazy growth spurt as she use to be good at self settling, but then the teeth came through two weeks later. She is now 8 months and we are only just recovering. I took her into bed with us and she never left! We have ended up resorting to baby whisperer soothing and pu/pd methods and after two bad nights, last night wasn't too bad. So we are getting there!

It was suggested to me, and a straw to cling too perhaps, that any developmental milestone sort of time upsets the sleep. So crawling, sitting, etc. Baby brain overload??

We are being interrupted at night too, not sure if teeth, wind or dummy loss (which I was very anti with 1st DS but have sought great comfort in this time with DD to immediately stop crying in night so as not to wake DS!!!!!)
Did controlled crying with DD at day time sleeps today only for 5 min periods to try to get her to settle without dummy but gave in but did move on to better shaped dummy for teeth, she would not take before today as something better than nothing now !!Oh the joys!!

Sushi, if it's just the dummy getting lost that wakes her, you could try a Sleepytot baby comforter. I do go on about these a bit but it's just such a simple solution and changed our lives! If your DS can get the dummy on the Sleepytot - no more night waking!

Oooh it is so good to hear other people are having problems too.

Yes, I am pretty sure it is his teeth. I feel bad because we're giving him calpol or another equivalent just about every night. Hopefully this will pass soon.

He did have a bit of a better night last night but still wakening and crying.
