Baby in own room???

Hiii,
I have a 4 month old and I'm now considering putting him in his own room so I don't wake up with every one of his 'animal' noises that he makes? What do you think??

I put DS in his own room at about 14 weeks as he was sleeping 9.30 - 7 and had outgrown his moses basket. There was no way we could fit the cot in our room and DH was against co sleeping.

I did keep all the doors open so we could hear if he made any noise.

I know the advice is 6 months and would have loved to have him sleeping with us for 6 months but over christmas we stayed with my parents and had to have him sleeping in with us and he went back to waking 2/3 times in the night.

Do what feels right for you - we moved DS to his own room at around 2 weeks as neither of us could sleep with all the noises he used to make. I used to wake up as soon as he cried (just left all the doors open) and he was fine.

Ds went into his cot in his own room at about 8 weeks,
I am a light sleeper and he would snore or fart loudly in his sleep and it would wake me up
also he was a long baby and grew out of his moses basket very early.

He was fine, I just kept the the doors open and he was only just down the landing (our house is really quite small)

I'm wondering about this - not yet as DS is only 8 days old, but it's something we will do probably sooner rather than later. His room is next to ours but the house is pretty solid, but with the doors open or a monitor we should be fine. I'm going to wait til he's into a routine though so I'm not constantly padding the corridors. DD went into her own room at 4 weeks as she was like a hedgehog snuffling in leaves and kept waking me up!

Tried it for the first time last night and I think he slept better, and so did I!! I agree, def wait until routine though

Ohhh routine, I love routine and am struggling with the chaotic habits of a newborn!

ShinySarah · 08/01/2009 17:14

I shudder when I think of DS being a newborn however, you know it doesn't last long!!!! (Thank the Lord!!!!!!!(wink))

I was told by HV that they should stay in your room for six months due to SIDs risk

we've moved ds 9 weeks into his own room as we can't fit the cotbed in our room - instead we're in his room on the sofa bed until either it gets warm enough to not have to have full heating on in two bedrooms or I feel confident leaving him. We live in a small flat but I'll def keep the monitor on my pillow all night when we do move back - do whatever feels right for you

Thanks ladies...DS is in own room and seems pretty happy there up to now.
