Also is it a set time or a bit more flexible?

Well it would be 7.30 at the latest on school nights (have to be up at 6.30am) and 8ish on the weekend. But due to his / DD's clubs, is 7ish on 2 or 3 weeknights, and 8ish on all other nights.

8.30 usually on the hols, but may be alot later on nights when we are out / have other kids staying (quite often)

He is OK on 10 or so hours sleep and reads if he wakes early. DD is 10 but needs more sleep, and hates getting up

donnie · 30/12/2008 09:19

about the same as bigTilly - around 8pm lights out on weekdays, a little later at w/ends.

MrsSanta · 30/12/2008 09:22

dd about 7.30 - 8 on school night and I am having to wake her at 8am each morning, later at weekend.
She seems to be one of these kids that needs a good 12 hours and has always slept well. (except when something exciting happening and she can be awake at 6am)

Ok thanks. Also if you have another child only 16 months younger, would you have the same bedtime or different.
They both usually go to bed between 7.30 and 8. Can be a lot later on odd occasions when we out. This has always worked really well for us all, no problems. Until they dad, who has not been on the scene for years, has started telling my eldest that because he is older he should go to bed later than he does and after ds2. I am not about to change our normal rountine that everyone has been happy with, but now ds1 feels he not being treated fairly because of his dad going on about it

DS1 (just turned 8) was going to bed at 8pm until a few montsh ago, then went to 9pm (but still goes at 8pm if he's been naughty).

bigTillyMint · 30/12/2008 10:04

Well we have DD 20mths older and they have always gone to bed at the same time.

Since September DD goes to bed about half an hour later on two nights because of her clubs, but he is generally still awake when she comes in.

Maybe your DS1 could be allowed to read for an extra 15mins after DS2 has to go to sleep, or are they in the same room?

LIZS · 30/12/2008 10:05

about 8 , later on weekends and holidays.

orangehead · 30/12/2008 10:05

They in same room

ok - just see you later post OP

All my childre have always gone to bed at 8pm, started with DS1 when he was 6 months old and we did sleep training with him. Then DS2 came along 3yrs later and we managed to get him into an 8pm bedtime too.

DS3 came along and after much tweaking I managed to move his sleep time back from 9/10ish to 8pm. A few months ago I felt that DS1 (who is an extremely early riser) would benefit from going to be a little later than his younger brothers - not just so he didn't get up so early, but also so he felt a little more "grown up".

So

DS1 - 8yrs - 9pm
DS2 - 5yrs - 8pm
DS3 - 19 months - 8pm

ds by 7.30 on school night and 8pm on weekend. Dh gets up at 6.15 and normally wakes me and ds up by 6.30pm

Ripeberry · 30/12/2008 10:17

Our DD1 and DD2 share a room, they are 6yrs old and 4yr old and they usually go to bed by 8pm. But they can mess around sometimes until 10pm at night!
Just gets so tiring going up and down the stairs to tell them to sleep, by then i've got to go to bed by 11pm.
So during holidays i have them from 7am until 10pm everyday, poor DH gets them as soon as he comes in from work as i just need an hour to myself at least!
