6wks old won't sleep at night, throws up constantly, always has winds, help!

Hi all,
My 6 wk old son (breastfed baby) won't sleep most nights, on a good night when he will go into his cot he wakes up hungry every 2.5 hours, so i get 1 hour sleep maybe if he goes down quickly and doesn't wake a million times cause of his winds. He throws up all through the night, I could keep winding him forever cause there are always more. He cries cause his tummy is hurting him. Im exhausted and at my wits end.
Any suggestions?

Might be worth posting on the breast and bottle feeding board - there's usually at least one person whose been through every possible problem!

oh, and we used gripe water with DS who had problems bringing up wind - I know it does nothing at all for some people, but it worked like a charm for us.

Much sympathy, had the same with ds who is now ten weeks. Diagnosed with reflux and on ranitidine which has worked wonders had a 6 hr stretch last night!

First of all, they don't start to tell night from day until around 6 weeks, so things have to improve from now onwards.

Reflux is a very likely candidate. Elevating his head will help. DS slept in a Fisher Price rocker (with stand to convert to sleep position) for 3 months and it made a huge difference -- no need for meds. Also, are you winding him properly? Possibly wind midway through each side, as well as between sides and afterwards.

just wanted to say, aside from the throwing up issue, feeding 2.5 hourly at night at his age is absolutely normal.
it is what he should be doing.

have you tried cutting anything out of your diet to see if that helps? ds2 was sensitive to eg and dairy and when i took them out the sickiness, windiness and general unhappiness stopped.

Firstly thanks to all for their replies!
Gripe Water doesn't work at all unfortunately.
His head is elevated but not as much as the seat would do, but even on the bad nights when he sleeps on my chest and is very elevated it's just as bad. I do wind him alot, between boobs and during each boob too, and afterwards.
I have cut out all dairy, eggs, tomato, cabbage, beans, gassy cooldrinks, caffeine, alcohol, etc etc... No difference...
