Is it ok to have the cot next to a wall?

Thinking of moving DS, 8.5 months, into this own room (I'm protesting but DH is insisting) and the best place for the cot is by the wall but have read somewhere that it's dangerous to have it next to a wall as LO can use the wall as leverage to escape. DS is already pulling himself up in his cot. Any thoughts? Thanks.

i should think its fine to have cot next to wall - we did with both our DS's (9 and 5)

We hadn't read that, cot was against wall when ds moved into his room (c.6mo) - never had any problem - moved him out of cot at c. 2.2....

really? both of mine have always had cot against wall

Yurtgirl · 18/12/2008 21:49

So did we - a wall is fine

You might want to be careful what you put next to the cot - chest of drawers for example that he could empty!!!

I hope he enjoys his new room

eh? How would that work?
Mine were both against the wall.
ds1 moved to bed at 2y3m, never climbed out
ds2 moved to bed at 2y5m - when he climbed out, he just went up and over though - didn't use the wall.

eh? where else can you put it? in the middle of the room?

DD was in a cot next to the wall, she never escaped out the cot, she did fall out once but that was because we hadn't lowered the base after she'd grown a little.

we had to move our DDs cot away from the wall...but because she was peeling the wallpaper rather than a safety issue. Never heard of it being a danger.

Trying to think where I read it. It may have been GF and I did think it was a bit loony at the time.

if you read it when pregnant / brand new parent, forget it
