I think the reason dd wakes howling at 10ish every night is because she falls asleep on the boob and then is surprised to find herself in bed when she stirs later. But she is so tired at 7pm that I don't know how I'm meant to stop her falling asleep for her final feed. Can't put her down any earlier as ds goes to bed at 7pm and wouldn't be able to bath him without waking her up. Do people wake their baby up again in order to put them in bed awake?

Hi shopping How old is your DD?

I have read that a lot of times, that a baby must wake in the place they fell asleep. I have only got one DD but I haven't found that to be the case. I think they can either self settle or they can't, I'm not sure it has anything to do with falling asleep on the boob. I feed DD to sleep for all naps but she is now sleeping through the night as she has learned to self settle on her own.

Have you read the No Cry Sleep Solution? It suggests waking the baby after their final feed and putting them in the cot drowsy so they finish falling asleep on their own. You could try that, although it might take a bit of time and effort. However, could it be that she is just hungry at 10pm?

Also, they say that babies have a brief awakening every hour so if feeding to sleep was a problem, she would surely be waking at 8 and 9 as well.

she's 7 1/2 months old and used to be a really good sleeper but since 5 months has screamed about 15mins after we go to bed every night (She's awake during the night too, but thought I would try to tackle this one first). Definitely not hungry, she's enormous and eats lots of solids as well as 5 bf a day. Will burst out of her 9-12 month clothes if I feed her anymore
Will try a gentle waking after feed and see how she gets on.
