downstairs noise - does it matter

Ok so I'm just one who loves quiet when I sleep so I guess I'm trying to give the same for DD 2 year old when she goes to bed.

Do you other mums pay attention or monitor how much noise you make after little one is put to sleep? Like right after you come down stairs do you try to be silent?

Or am I being unreasonable?

It's easier if you just make the noise you would usually make, they get used to the normal noises in your household and usually sleep through them...obviously you don't want to be playing loud music but no need to creep about...

I just carry on as normal when my 2 go to bed. They seem to sleep through it ok so I guess they are used to it.

We made it a point NOT to be quiet. The last thing we wanted was to be one of those "Oh god don't sneeze you'll wake the baby" households. IMO learning to sleep through a huge party is a v. good skill to teach your children.

We're quiet for about 15 mins until we are sure they are asleep otherwise they are curious and come to see what we are doing. Once they are asleep, we can do what we like, even drilling doesn't wake them.

Mine hated it if we were too quiet - they liked to be able to hear that we were there. Even now, ds sometimes comes to check that we're still there if he can't hear us and he's 7!

And anyway, I think it's important to carry on with normal life - nothing worse than having to creep round whispering because "you might wake the baby"!

We live in a flat and there is only a very small hallway between DS's room and our living room. We generally stay quiet for a little while and then do what we would normally do.

That said - we do try to keep the noise down anyway because we don't want to disturb the neighbours which we have on three sides of our place.
