My DS who is 5 months old was never a good napper. Only did 3 x 40 minute or so naps per day and was very tired around 6.30 when we put him to bed.

In the last couple of weeks things are changing. My husband who works until 1 am sleeps in during the morning. I was tired one morning too so the 3 of us went to bed when DS needed his morning nap. He slept for 2 hours!

This didn't continue every day as we didn't take him into our bed and just put him in his cot. He lasts just 40 minutes in his cot but can go 2 hours (2.5 as I am writing this) if he is in bed cuddled up with my huband!

I am so glad he is sleeping as he is such a happy little boy when he's had enough sleep and I know we're probably making things difficult for us later on but it is working just now.

Amyway, the route of the question! He's getting probably closer to 3.5-4 hours during the day. Could this now be too much?

I don't want it affecting his night sleeping because he's pretty good. Should I wake him or just go with what is working?

Hello, no personal experience of this as my DD is lucky to slep half an hour in the morning and maybe 2 hours at lunch but I know a couple of mums whose babies have 2 hours in the morning 10-12 ish and 2 hours in the afternoon 2-4ish. They seem to sleep well at night too (lucky mums!) but I guess only the babies know how much sleep they need, maybe he is just catching up and its a novelty?

Personally I think that every baby is different and if he is sleeping for a length of time then he needs it. My DS is just over 6 months old and his daytime sleep varies depending on what we are doing. The only thing I would suggest is not to let him sleep too late in the day as this may well affect his night time sleep.

That sounds like a lovely, perfect arrangement. If everyone's happy with it, go with it. DS sleeps really well when his auntie has him and I'm at work because she's happy to sit on the bed with him while he sleeps (I always want to get on with something). If you can get on with stuff and he's happier when he has this long nap, thats wonderful.

Its also (IMO) wonderful bonding time for DS and DH.

They change so ickly

Sleep stuff gets easier and easier to change the older they get. If he and his daddy enjoy it, go for it! I don't think there's such a thing as too much sleep. It sounds rather lovely actually.
