Help - 7mo has turned into satan

I'm at the end of my tether. Dd has started waking in the night and screaming on and off for hours. I have tried the following

  1. In bed with us - still screamed
  2. A form of controlled crying - horrible and didn't manage more than 15 mins. She ended up clinging to me and I felt so awful.

She has recently dropped the night feeds and I don't want to start them again, it's not her teeth at the moment - that was last week.

Why..... and when will it end?

How did she sleep before?
How do you get her to sleep of an evening?
How much daytime sleep does she have?
Will I ever stop asking questions?

sunshine75 · 04/12/2008 13:00

No, I'm glad of the help

She slept reasonably well before. We could settle her with a dummy/light show if she woke up during the night

Goes to bed well at 7 after a bath, story and bf

Usually 2 naps throughout the day (45 mins am and 90 mins ish pm). With the terrible nights she has been having a longer morning nap - I guess to make up for the lack of sleep at night.

Does she fall asleep with a crutch?
Has she become more mobile lately? Crawling for example.
Is there anyway you manage to get her back to sleep at night?

ches · 04/12/2008 15:37

I vote crawling, teething and/or growth spurt.

sunshine75 · 04/12/2008 18:37

She can go to sleep on her own (naps and bedtime) but I used to bf her back to sleep during the night.

Not fully crawling yet but almost there and doing a lot of creeping and rolling. Why does this make a difference?

Last night the only way I got her back to sleep was on my chest (not v. comfortable)

i would just feed her. if it's a growth spurt she could well be hungry.

ches · 04/12/2008 18:57

Development upsets their sleep because their wee bodies just practice and practice and practice new skills constantly. It's like lying in bed awake thinking about the test you have the next day and have been studying for all evening.

SNAP

same exact thing... think it's either separation anxiety, teeting, growth spurt and starting to crawl or a combo.

take your pick... DC1 was the same at this age.

just be flexible and go with flow.

sunshine75 · 04/12/2008 19:32

Yes, will try.

I would have fed her but last nights scraming was not hunger/pain. There were no tears just the noise she makes when she is angry/frustrated/in temper.

It's heartbreaking to hear it and not be able to do anything.

ok, but sometimes they just need comfort

I was just about to write the same thread when I saw yours!

Dd is 6mo and has just started to be a pain in the ass at night. She used to sleep from 6pm to 7pm but has just got her first tooth (didnt interfere with sleeping) and has just got over a big cold.

Now she goes to bed at 6/7pm and wakes crying at 9.30pm ish for ages.

Last night I had had enough and gave her a bottle at 11pm and she went straight to sleep!!

Tonight I tried controlled crying but she started screaming. As soon as I picked her up she fell asleep in my arms. Dp tried a bit later and she smiled at him and wouldnt relax - I picked her up and she fell asleep.

I have put it down to the fact that its a growth spurt and seperation anxiety. More food and lots more cuddles x

sunshine75 · 05/12/2008 07:58

Hooray - last night 7-7 no food and just a few wimpers at which I raced in with a dummy and she went straight back to sleep.

PLEASE let it continue!!!
